Official word on Zaino Products

Hey guys! For those who wondered if what we say about Zaino is true, here you go. I have a friend who is into Vettes, and this was written by a Vette enthusiast to a Vette board:

Well I paid the ~$20s for the Guru Report, Wax Test. I hope I don't get sued for writing about it. I found it more than interesting and it validated, as well as, repudiated many of the things I've read here on the net, in car mags, on wax bottles, and general 'hear say' from the guys in the know.

First let me put most everyone who is a Zaino advocate at ease. Every wax was rated on a grid (spread-sheet) 11 X 9 (almost 100 different scores)that included beading, shine, gloss, depth, clarity, reflectivity, slickness, color enhancement, overall impression and from the initial application through 8 different washes with final grades and an overall grade. That being said, and much to my surprise, Zaino Show Car Polish got the only A out of 46 different products. My personal favorite, Liquid Glass got a lousy C. The closest to Zaino was P21s Concours-look Carnauba with a B+ then Klasse All In-One & Sealant Glaze with a B. There were several Bs and B-s. When it came to the Editor's Choice besides the Zaino and P21s they chose Collinite Super Doublecoat, Armor All Protective Barrier Car Wax and Mequiar's Gold Class. They noted the price of the Armor All is listed at $2.95 but can be found on sale for 99 cents and it ranked 5th of the 46 brands. Actual scores were done on a 4 point system like college grades. A 4 point being perfect. As I said earlier Zaino got the highest grade a 3.53, the only other grade close was P21s with a 3.18 the rest got in the 2 range and about a dozen scored in the 1 range

The report has lots of great preparation facts, several interesting letters to the editors, a section on tool of the trade where #1 is the Porter Cable 7336 Random Orbital Buffer, and tips and techniques. Every wax/polish gets at least half a page of write-up.

This is a good report...

Yes it is a good report. I got it about 6 months ago and thought it was very interesting. And yes, I only use Zaino on my truck and love it. Can't wait for it to stop snowing and warm up so I can Zaino it again.

Can you get these product at any retail locations or do you have to order it?

If you do have to order it is there a good place online or something?

Thumbs up here ya go

I got mine at Gloss Boss. Talked a really nice lady there and they take credit card orders. Zaino does not. You can get the price list and product list at www.zainobros.com print it out and call Gloss Boss for credit card. They are same price as Zaino. Phone # for Gloss Boss is 317-859-8449.

I was going to clay bar and then put a coat on when the weather get's better, which I hope is sometime soon.

Last time I did a clay bar I did it to my other vehicle and it was made so that you didn't have to be a pro to use it. I have heard that with clay bars you can hurt the finish if you are not careful.

Do you have to be a pro to use their stuff. I don't have a buffer or anything. I just don't want to hurt my finish.

the zaino shine looks like it was done with a buffer when it was done by hand! i dont' use a buffer, and doubt i ever will on my HD cuz i'm too afraid of screwing the paint up. the zaino is really easy to do though, and doesn't take that long to do, despite what it seems at 1st. Just read all their directions and tips and tricks from their site, and you'll be fine.

goodluck and happy zainoing!

Hey Harley, if you own a porter cable, try the zaino with it. Really comes out nice.

I did a full strip.. SMR buff and some pinnacle cleansing lotion. In between the SMR and the Lotion, i washed. I had a nice oil free, sqeaky clean surface. I took some Z1 ( yes, i still use a lok even with ZFX ) and applied it with a PC on 4. I then wiped it off by hand with a MF towel. Mixed up some Z5 with ZFX juice and let her rip. Its amazing. I then topped off with 1 coat of Z1 with the buffer.

I use the ZFX only on strips as i can get 3 coats on there in one sitting. Otherwise, its just one coat of Z2 or Z5. But the buffer sure makes the Zaino spread more evenly and gives it that many more " wipes " per passes to increase the optics. Im doing the focus ( sonic blue ) tomorrow with it.

Am I right that Zanio will not cause any adverse effects on plastic trim and rubber? And is it like wax in that a wash in Dawn detergent will strip it all off?

Also, what happens to folks like me when we can't park in a garage. Will the overnight dew/fog mess up the process?

What really happens if you don't wait 24 freakin hours between coats. I can't stay still for an hour, much less 24.

I didn't wait 24 hours, I used the ZFX to speed up the drying process. I applied two coats back to back. Dried that fast. Just like using regular waxes. Harley #356 would have an answer regarding the truck sitting outside as his does also.

This might sound like an amateur question.....that's because it is. If this Zaino product is so good why does it require so many coats? And can somebody (Josh?) tell me a little about this clay bar. What, exactley is it? Why? How, step by step, do you clay bar?

it won't hurt the plastic and won't leave any white residue. thats another reason why i like it so much.

i don't have a garage either, truck sits outside 24/7/365. blazing sun, humid summers, snow, rain, storms, everything. the zaino holds up amazing!
and since yours is outside also, you should definately get the zfx. the thought of having to leave polish on my truck for a few hours to dry, while dust and dirt and pollen and crap settles on the tacky polish on my truck, then i gotta buff all that off rubbing it into the paint makes me cringe. with the zfx though, by the time i'm done applying, its ready to be buffed off, so no down time.

it only requires 1 coat, thats it....simple as any other wax and even easier to apply/remove, and probably takes less time.
1 coat of zaino should last rougly twice as long as one coat of wax under the same conditions (6 mos. vs. 3 mos.)

You should always, no matter what product you use, wash with dawn to strip any old wax before using the new product.

you should clay bar your truck every year at least no matter what product you use to pull any contaminates out of the paint.

You've still got to wash and polish your truck, and this is where the zaino comes into play.

Z5 and Z2 are both polishes (z5 swirl remover and best for dark colors and basecoats....Z2 better for ligher colors, chrome, and top coats) Simple wipe on, haze, buff off. as many coats as you want.

z1 is the base that helps the surface bond with the zaino better, and easier alternative is zfx, just add 3-5 drops in your bottle of z5/2 and shake it up, and apply to the truck and it dries waaaay quicker. plus you can do 3 coats in a day with zfx. it won't take you all day, but it needs 24 hours to finish bonding.

so you can put as many coats of zaino on as you want. i noticed the biggest improvement with just one coat. the truck looked better than it ever had using liquid glass. but what the heck, its so easy, why not do the 3 coats for added protection, and longer lasting shine.

its addictive too....thats why i've got 9 coats in 3 months. LoL!

and the z6 is quick detailer......truck a little dusty or whatever? just spray it down and wipe it up and its good as new like it was just polished.

so its really no more steps than any wax, it just seems overwhelming reading the directions.

as for what a clay bar is. go to www.zainobros.com and their "products" link and it explains what a claybar does there
