Angry Third light....grrr

Ok, ok...now i feel like a dummy..is there a "trick" to getting that white rubber wiring plug out? I been fooling with that thing for 20min. I got my new L 3rd light and want to get it in while there's a break in the weather.

BTW....i am waiting at keyboard for answer....thx again.

Wish I could help but you will be getting an answer I will likely need when I receive mine.

I know HD356 installed one so I'm sure he will be along to help you soon.

Good luck!!

Unhappy progress

Ok, well with patience and a puckered butt...i managed to get it out without scratching the truck. Now i wonder if this is the way to go or not...is this a "plug and play" deal or not?

The way that Josh told me is that you need to reach in the head liner and grab the conector. You will need to losen the head liner though...... I haven't looked at it yet.

you should get yours in like 2 days bill...gonna email the tracking number in a few minutes

anyway, yeah, its ALOT easier if you don't have a tonneau cover, but i do, so i had to squeeze 1/2 way out the rear slider. that was fun
anyway, pull the 2 plugs out at the back of your headliner. they come out pretty easy, then slowly and carefully pull down on the headliner from outside the rear window (if you have one...if not the you are on your own. LoL!) if you don't pull down too hard or far, you won't crease the headiner or anything.
the hardest part is getting the stock wiring harness out. its plugged into a metal bracket on the roof. it pops out though. what i did was get a long flat head screwdriver and pop it out. just took a little playing to do it. then once you get that out, pull the plug out, plug in the new light, and just push the wires back up in the headiner...you don't hvae to reattach the connector onto that clamp. screw the new light in, and you're done. just takes some patience

its worth the trouble. i wasn't really crazy about the LED 3rd brakelights, and the truck looked a little weird to me after i 1st did it cuz i was used to the red light being there. but now that i'm used to it, it looks really stealth and cool cuz it matches all the plastic surround.
but anyway, i wasn't gonna get one, but after i saw a 01L with one at the drag strip at night, i HAD to get one. those LED's are BRIGHT!!

pics do it NO justice...awsome mod!

goodluck!

I have been absent from the site quite a bit lately, but did everyone and their sister get a 3rd light??? Was this some kind of mass mailing that I missed?

Where did you guys get them, and how much?

4WL HOGG, you missed out man!!! If you were on this site the other day at 5 pm Pacific time you got a free L 3rd light!!! LoL!

Oh well, better luck next time

Seriously, about 5 of us got one from a source on the forum. I should get mine by Friday which is perfect. I am off work, the weather is supposed to be great and I plan to spend a good portion of the day cleaning my truck and installing my new light.

My truck is so filthy because of the rain and fog, yuck!!

Got mine today

Just installed!!!!

*Must have mod* LED 3rd brake light is awsome!!!!

The tail lights are awsome too!!!! I love them both......

I would just like to thank the HD community for the mod bug!!!

Have fun installing the 3rd brake light if you have a tonneau.

Thanks again for the mod bug (JOSH) (with all your pics)

Hopefully I will be a carrier of the Bug and not just a victim

Talking Ebay....again

Well unlike everyone else, I got mine on Ebay. I bought it at the "Buy it now" price of $127 + $10 shipping. I checked at the dealer and they wanted $230 Since I got mine, I've seen them on Ebay for the "buy it now" price of $85 Good luck, hope you get a "deal".
