Opinion on gauge pods..
Opinion on gauge pods..
I want to add a full pillar 2 gauge pod to me 02 HD. I have found a couple of different ones to choose from. I'm looking for the best fit and appearence, not the cheapest.
Here are the most common ones I have found.
What do you guys think about the position of the pods? I'm wondering if this will make them less ledgable during the day, or if it will obstruct your view any.
I think this style is more common. It puts the gauges closer to you, and might be more ledgable-
Oh yeah, we can't post pics from FTW. Cut-n-paste the link...

N2TRUX,
I have to say that I put gauges in my truck, I used that setup. I have all the part #'s and gauge #'s if you need them. I have to say that it is hard as he** to read those tihngs when you mash it
The only thing you see is the little green light glow "rich" lol

That's a lotek pod... you can get them from rkkustoms.com or gaugepods.com same photo...
the other option is an autometer...
I think the 2001 and 2002 interior is slightly different. I bought a single guage pod from autometer and it fits, but it doesn't fit well. If someone has a two guage pod that looks GOOD, let me know... I'll make the switch, too.
it's my understanding that you will have to drill holes in the pillar to make the lotek work...
And to answer your question, Ken, I would say that it won't be too awful in terms of blocking your vision.
If you think it will, get a single and put a guage there and get a single that fits on top of the steering column.
My single doesn't interfere at all.

HD4mula- i have a three gauge pod with autometer alumlite gauges that I got from REM. the pod fits well enough but in side the plain white packaging there is no mounting hardware or any hints as to how to install the thing or even who makes it. i had to get creative and drill a hole and 3M dbl sided tape along the underside of the rubber trim/pod. install turned out very professional but it still seems like some sh** was missin. did you get some mount hardware with the gauge pod. anyway, the function and look of the gauges is awesome.
Hey, N2,
BTW, Autometer has an electronic boost guage with a "peak" holder. It will pop the needle to where you peaked at...
Kind of pricey, but then you don't have to drive into a tree while seeing your max boost
I think it was like $150 bucks or something. Looks just like the one in the PIC, but uses a sender to send a signal by wire where the mechanical has a little plastic tube coming through the firewall and into the back of the guage...
Been meaning to get one, but the install was a PITA and I don't want to do it again....
Ken
*edit * I can't seem to find that gauge with the memory function... someone on world bought it... I saw a pic. Maybe they discontinued it...

ack!
I found it.... it's in the 2003 catalog...... 5776. I found my old post on world. It was $200 bucks!
5776 goes to 15psi, 5777 goes to 30psi. If you mod quite a bit, you'll peak the 15, if not, the 15 would be easier to read smaller increments.

Forgot to tell that the mod needed for the 02s comes already done by REM.
Preaux: They come with some plastic tabs to attach on top of the stock one but they throw them away because is easier (and looks better) to just replace the stock one. They fit snugly but you can add a screw or double sided tape if you want. I just added a little double sided in the top but really was not required.

Ouch! 200 geeters for just one gauge. Oh well, I'm sure the one I want built at Classic will cost almost as much, if not more. Now I have to decide if I prefer function over cosmetics. Hmmm?...
One more note.... I have the ultralite in the truck now and it is "sticky". I can tap it and cause the reading to go off by +- 2lbs of boost or same on vaccum side...
I need to replace it, so I might be doing this mod soon. I popped out the light switch panel and wired into the dimmer there so my guage dims with the rest of the panel. I highly recommend you do that...
