ATTENTION: Block, rods, pistons, are from standard F150?!
For what its worth, as SVT vehicle can be serviced at any Ford dealer. I think the ability to be SVT certified depends on a level of service which includes customer service and ford/automotive mechanical knowledge rather than SVT specific mechanical knowledge. Mechanically an engine is still and engine regardless of if it says SVT on it. Parts on the other hand might be unique to SVT but anyone can order parts. I would not worry about non-SVT certified dealers selling HD as an indication that we have a regular f150 engine internals.

Originally posted by HD4mula It just has the same engine as the SVT Ls. That does not make it an SVT car. Also dealers selling SVT cars need to meet some quality goals.
And why one dealer whose quality is not good enough for Ford to let them sell Ls can have good enough quality to deal with HDs that "just" have same supercharged engine? I would assume they should not be good enough in either case.
In any case, as I said before, these are nothing but opinions and none of us is dealing with facts. Only Ford can answer this with facts. So far they are quiet. I wish they would be less quiet.

SVT stands for Special Vehicle Team. This team takes normal Ford cars and add design elements to the whole car, i.e. engine, suspension, interior, looks, etc to get a complete package and then they put the SVT label on it. The HD as far as I know was not a SVT team design. Of course I'm 100% sure they got involve due to the several parts used from the SVT designs. But for some reason they did not put the SVT label in it. Maybe because it's real deal was with Harley Davidson and that was the main marketing focus from Ford and they wanted to sell it in all dealers. As mentioned before SVT dealers must meet a qualification criteria in terms of sales volume, quality and good customer feedback. Many of the SVT cars bring more revenues (higher sticker prices and markups) and due to limited production they focus their car distribution on that. Why the didn't do it for the HD? I don't know. Should it deserve that treatment? I say yes but we are not Ford distrinution/marketing

In any case, you are right, that doesn't say anything about are internals same or not, and that is our subject of interest.

another observation.... EVERY SINGLE part under the hood of the HD looks IDENTICAL to the L with the exception of the HD/L logos on the airbox... every little piece, part, connector, etc...
that leads me to believe... it's the same as an L...

My 02HD replaced an 01 supercrew 5.4. There is very little in common between those two engine compartments...
what I was driving at is that everytying, COP wires, vent tubes, boost bypass, maf, temp sensor, plenum, boost actuator, pcv vent, manifolds, etc. etc. etc. are all identically marked and identically placed. That would mean that everything outside of the engine block is exactly the same. Why would ford go to all the trouble to duplicate everything on the L motor in it's entirety, but then change out the rods-n-pistons, heads, and a few other internals. They would have to have done some level of R&D before launching this frankenstein of a motor otherwise every other one would be blown. It would be easier and cheaper to just use a detuned L... no r&d needed. It's already done.
I'd still love to see it in writing, though... I don't seem to be able to get those results, though.

ken800,
I hear where you are coming from. Your logic is, well, logical. That's the conclusion I would tend to incline to myself too. However, logic also tells me clean cut situation should result in easy and clean cut response from Ford. So far that has not happened and that is where we came to next logical question: Why?
>> I'd still love to see it in writing, though...
Me too, so I can move on, I have much more important things to do. However, everything so far indicates Ford will not voluntarily answer. I will try to set up petitioned letter to Ford on this matter. In the meantime we should start doing deeper homework on our own. We need to get in touch with tuners and owners that had these engines ripped open and see what they say. Do you have anybody you can contact?
