Unhappy Another tire problem

Went out to the truck for lunch, and I have a flat. A bad one at that. I could actually stick my fingers between the rim and the tire!!! I must have driven on it for a little ways. I took it to my tire and muffler place and got it fixed for free . It turns out that there was a small hole in the side of the tire!? They had no idea of what could have caused it (other than an icepick or something).

This is the second tire problem I have had in 11.5k miles, what gives Has anyone else had any problems with their tires?

I had a nail in one off mine about a month ago. It pumped it up a little and drove to a tire place to get it fixed. Cost me $35 CDN.

Sorry to hear about that Jeremy...
Atleast they were able to save the tire.

Sorry to hear you had the problem but sidewall dammage can happen to any tire. I must say, however, that the Eagle GTs are some of the best (trac, rugged, rain) tires I have ever had. That includes Michelin, Pirelli, Continental, Yoko, ... you name it! The Eagle GT has become GoodYear's marquee tire. I think they have done a great job in design and longevity.

i've got 26K miles on my GTII's and should get close to another 20K out of them. i'm missing a little chunk of rubber out of the rear sidewall, but its not that deep, just a little curb attack, and also got a nail in the front tire, but had it plugged. everythings been fine besides that (knock on wood)

i might get new tires next year just cuz these will be over 3 years old by then, and the age will be worse than the tread amount, and for shows, i'll either get the new style GTII's (00's and 01's have a different sidewall pattern) or get some 295/40's goodyears like chgames has i wish i could see those in person though, that would really help my decision

Try the Toyo Proxes ST's. I got the 295/45/20's and love them. They fill out the fender wells very nicely.

Do you have pic of that hole? I had issue with tire on the side of a tire very briefly after the purchase that I don't think could have been caused by any road hazard (based on how it looked like and where it was, you can check out pics of it in my gallery) yet dealership dismissed it as a road hazard damage (at my expense, of course).

Sorry, I don't have any pictures. The whole repair happened so fast that I didn't think to get my camera out.

The problem I had before with my tires was a large patch of tread missing. I was able to get the tire replaced by the dealer, as well as get my tires rotated (because it took a long time to order the tire).

Does damage shown on pics in my gallery match any of yours?

my second problem was more of a small circular puncture, not as much a tear or long cut.
