Well looks like I was right...

Food indeed did make the lower grille opening smaller on the 03's campared to the 02's.

Met one last night and the top to bottom size is atleast 1/4-1/2 smaller maybe a little more.

Didn't have anything long enough (atleast out in the open) to compare width's.

Wonder If the SVT guys at ford said to make it smaller ? Cause is sure don't help any. Less grille opening = more temps=less HP.

That is unless the opening we have is over-sized and they had room to play with.

Who knows ?

03 Guys get some measurements with a tape and we can figure total area loss.

yup, i can't figure out why they'd even do that, not to mention it doesn't even look as good as the previous gen. lower valances IMO.
If they were bigger i could see it, but to me the lower valance is just too boxy on the 03's. that lower grille should be alot bigger to look right, and rounded off and not so square. if i remember next time i'm out at the ford dealer, i'll measure the 03's lower grille and compare the sizes with mine if nobody else does by then. i know we don't have many 03 members here yet

I don't believe higher temps or power loss is of any concern since more air will enter under the front fascia than through it to begin with.

I do however agree that the new fascia is too angular to suit the rest of the trucks overall styling. I liked the previous years mucho bueno!

but since the new lower 03 valance is lower to the ground, and doesn't "bump" up like on the 00-02's, wouldnt' that make even less air to get up into the intercooler, plus do the 03's still have that rubber-flap type thing below the lower grille that would block alot of air from getting up there?

another reason to go with the JDM replacement unit.

How can I justify the expense. O I know, I want it

This ticks me off even more. To learn that while decreasing the appeal of the truck the also took away some power. What a mistake! Motor Trend did a review on the '03 and said it turned a 6.5 0-60 and 14.8 1/4 - I hope this thing isn't any slower then the '02's.

well, don't take too much trust in the magazine times. i remember last year one of them did the weights of the trucks also, and the HD was either just barely heavier, or they actually printed it as lighter than a L
next time i make it out to the dealer, i'll measure the area of the 03 lower grille and compare it with the previous gen valance opening

Didn't they also get like a 15.3 something out of the HD ?

Hell our 99 "running around town" Lariat did a 15.7 with just a intake.

If you can measure a HP difference with such a small change in opening area I'll send you a barrel of beer

You can see the Bazo B4's in 22" on a 2001 Navigator in my gallery. They are great looking wheels.
