The Horror!!!
Almost every morning I drive down one of the moderately busy streets in our northern Dallas suburb, Plano. Among the houses along the street is one with a rear drive on which sits a DSG ’02 HD. It’s fun to look at when I drive by, because you just don’t get a chance to see that many other HDs out there, and this one looks just like mine. I’ve thought several times about leaving a card or flyer on his windshield so he knows about the site(s) and the bounty of information that awaits him/her. I’ve also been quite curious about their parking situation. They have a 2- or 3-car garage but the HD is always parked on the rear drive that parallels the street and is quite visible. I guess that visibility could be an actual theft deterrent, but it’s always made me somewhat uneasy. Perhaps this person is just unaware of the jewel that he’s parking out in the wide open? Perhaps this person purchased it purely on looks alone, and “it’s just another pickup” for them? Hard to fathom.
Besides the theft issues, there’s also the question of exposure to the elements. In an average Texas spring season, there’s all manner of hail, high winds and the occasional twister.
This morning (I come into work quite early so it was still EARLY in the morning) I drove by and noticed the poor HD propped up on four blocks with the wheels and tires nowhere to be found.
They’re obviously the victims of theft overnight. That was a sad sight I tell ya! I’ve felt bad for the poor folks all morning.

Did you stop and tell them or did the already know about it?
But that really sucks for whoever owns it
My truck sits in a parking deck most of the day and I am just waiting for someone to come by and decide to do the same thing to mine, though I hope it never happens.

Man that's awful that they're wheels were swiped. If they have that type of garage it makes you wonder what they have in the garage that would put the HD as a lower priority??
Let's hope it is because they got vehicles that are actually worth more in their garage not just junk.
My neighbors always kid me about that fact that my 2 car garage holds all my vehicles (The bike, my wife's Expy and my truck). I tell them that is what the garage is for! If you got too much ***** that you need to use your garage to store stuff then you probably got too much crap. Either that or lower your vehicle standards and just drive junk that you don't care about.

Stopped by the house and feel even worse for them now.
The wheels were ripped off this weekend (GLAD I didn't go ringing their doorbell this morning!)
Turns out the husband's been very sick and so he's not up and about much; which explains why the truck's sat in the same spot in the driveway for a while. To make things worse, he and a friend went out to get some things out of the truck and didn't remember to re-arm the alarm. That night (or the next morning) around 03:00 it was ripped off. It's like someone was just watching for an opening.
Looking around there're several streetlights that shine down on their driveway plus they have a light on the driveway. It's a "Crime Watch Neighborhood" and the police patrol the area frequently (our suburb's extremely into the safe neighborhood's thing). It's like there were about a half dozen reasons for thieves to leave the truck alone and merely ONE reason for them to try it (the alarm being off). Bold crooks indeed!
She told me of a couple of the items in the 2-car garage (guess I won't publish it on the web *L*). They're going to try to get out there and move things around to put the truck in the garage from now on. Because of the unfortunate experiences of some of you board folks, I was able to remember to warn her to really watch out for the crooks to return once the rims are replaced.
Unfortunately, they don't speak much English and they don't have Internet access so they can't benefit directly from the sites. I'm still going to check in with them and see if I can help them with their garage or SOMETHING. Who says they have to be online here to enjoy HD fraternity benefits?

If you are talking with them, it sure can't hurt to get the locking lug nuts, too. Might slow a thief down a little at least...

Well that really sucks! I went to Home Depot and got motion sensor outdoor lights that stay on at low wattage and fully on at any movement. Also helps when coming home late at night...lights come on for you. This is small town but I also have a neighbor next door that has 2 yappers. Anyone come around they bark like mad. I also have firearms and WILL shoot someone. I think all this said, I don't worry too much, but I do keep my 9mm loaded and ready.
Their mama might give 'em a break, but I won't.

If you feel so bad get him a pair of wheel locks for his next set of wheels. That would be a nice gift which could spark a relationship with a fellow HD owner. He might be a cool person to have over for a beer on Monday nights. I hate thiefs. That is one benefit of living in a gated community. I can leave the doors unlocked and not worry about getting it stolen.
