I'd probably say foglight mod- free
airbox mod- like 35 bucks for the kn filter
rear drop- about 50 bucks
painted calipers/inner exhast tips- like 3 bucks. lol

those are a few of the cheapest mods, after that it gets more expensive, i'm sure the other guys will be around soon to add to the list

Airbox mod... that'll get you 1-2 lbs of boost with 35-50 in materials.

Next best bang for your buck would be a 4lb lower pulley cause you won't need a chip. Youll dyno at 350-360 with the 4lb lower and airbox mod... This will set you back 200 bucks or less if you can find a used one.

Next best mod in terms of BANG FOR BUCK. A wet nitrous kit would set you back about $600 but you could put a 75 shot on there. There is no better bang for your buck. Skip the lower if you want to do this without a chip...

A mod that you MUST do is the factory tech valve body. $225 dollars and your truck will shift like a dream! This plus your 4lb lower with no chip will make your truck fly for sure.

I would do the airbox mod regardless and an oil capture kit regardless. That will give you more boost and keep your blower clean.

For looks I would say rear 2" shackles. For performance you can feel a chip or a 4# as mentioned before.

Josh is right, it only gets more expensive after that

Bang for the buck... performance or looks?

Performance:
As mentioned earlier, air box mod and filter.
Pulley and chip combo

Looks:
L Clear Tails
L Third Light
Sylvania Silverstars for your headlamps

Those sectional mods will set you back around $500-600.

Unhappy WTF

Ok, I went to get a K&N and i was told that there is NO K&N filter for the '02 HD yet. Is it just these local yocal's or is it true? Also, does anyone have a 4# pulley for sale. Is 4# the stock pulley for the L? Are they hard to install? Does it require any special tools? Sorry for all the questions, but i am driving to the dealer in Tallahassee today to see if they are "mod friendly" and to get an L 3rd light. Prolly get oil and filter change as well as fuel and air filters....unless they are mod friendly, then i'll change induction. Thx for the help guys/girls.

That's funny, Fepony. I have one in my 02. I ordered it online for like $34 including shipping. Unfortunately, I'm at work so I don't have the website. I would do a search. There are a lot of online places you can get one. I also checked my local parts stores and they either didn't have them or had to order it for like $55.

BTW, tell the local yokels to look up a Lightning. It uses the same filter and the HD may not be listed in their books.

Ken800, you wrote about the 4lb lower pulley swap. I have installed the Airforce One and MicroTuners deal, could I install the 4lb lower pulley as well, without having to have a custom chip burned? Also do you need any special tools to install the pulley, how much work is involved? Thanks

1) Order the K&N panel filter for the L. Same filter.

2) Check all of the classifieds. post a WANT TO BUY on nloc.

3) They are fairly easy to install, but you will need a big bar for leverage. Make sure you get a Gatorback belt when you get the pulley so it doesn't slip

4) also, get a cageless. they weigh less and are easier to remove. Also, you can change the accessory belt with the cageless pully much easier. Make sure you get a gatorback accessory belt also or it will chirp as you increase HP and tighten shifts.

5) I swapped my air force one for a JL intake since it will pull a little more air from outside...

6) good luck on the mod friendly and make sure in that discussion that you are interested in a small increase in pulley size for the LOWER and that you aren't going to chip it. Chips are usually what gets you dinged since they make changes to engine timing, fuel, tranny line pressure, etc. So, if anyting breaks in the engine or tranny, they will try to blame the chip...

Any more questions?

Ken

Yes, you can install the 4lb lower without a chip. The stock computer will handle the timing and fuel needs no problem. You usually will need a big bar for leverage to break nuts loose on the stock pulley. Shouldn't take you more than a couple of hours if you are new to your truck and are careful. Don't forget to get a goodyear gatorback belt for it since the stock one won't be right.

I would consider a plug that is one range colder with a 4lb pulley though. I know a lot of guys are running stock plugs with the 4lbr, but I would go one range colder. You won't notice any idling problems (I didn't) and you'll be sure to decrease the liklihood of any detonation from too much heat.

I put in denso IT-20s when I went 4lbs. I left them in for the 6lb lower...

I modified the stock airbox by cutting out the bottom to allow more air intake. Some other guys have also run a duct from this opening down to the lower valance to allow more cold air intake.

The foglight (driving light) mod just allows you to turn on the lights with the parklamps. There are a few ways to achieve this.

1. Splice the 2 wires (#5 and #12). This will turn the lights on with park and headlights.

2. Modify the switch to allow you to pull out the switch to turn on the lights. Requires more work and you can possibly damage your switch

3. Do number 1 but wire in a toggle switch to allow you to override the driving lights coming on with the parklamps if you want.

Search the forum and you can find details to these mods.

Good luck and happy moddin'

I'd also throw in the boost gauge and pod. It's great to see the results of your mods, especially the ones that just give a marginal improvement in feel.

speaking of boost guages, mine is an autometer and is kind of "sticky" . I can tap it and it will read +- 2 ish pounds of boost or 2" of vacuum.

I am going to replace it with the digital unit I think...

Any other guages that are maybe a little more accurate?

According to Fedex tracking, my autometer ultri-lite should arrive today. The steering wheel pod is backordered though =(.. I'll let you know when it is all hooked up.
