Question Pulley question?

Okay,

Can you run a 5# pulley without a chip?

The L guys can run a 4# pulley with nochip no problem. So with the HD technically you can run a 6# pulley without a chip? Since the HD has 2# less boost from factory?

I have a someone that has a 5# pulley for sale, but I don't want to put a chip in until the autologic chips are out.

I don't think you can make that blanket statement since the HD has a different factory computer program. I'll try to catch Sal and get his opinion. In the past he has said 4lb's on a HD would be ok.

Thanks Mark,

I was wondering about the computers.

Don't mind me, I like to get all the facts before I do something. I want to add a pulley, chip, etc. But I want to make sure that I get the best stuff the first time around. I hate doing things twice.LOL

crockett59,

From all I am reading there is an ongoing debate in L forums about use of 4# lower without a chip. People are split fifty/fifty (more or less) can it be done or not. One thing they all agree on is that use of 2# lower without a chip will be OK. Also, there is an ongoing debate how many #s total are safe on HD. If I were you I would just do 4# on HD and be on safe side.

How much more torque/HP one can expect out of 5# or 6# compared to 4# anyway?

Using the 5# pulley will net you about 3# on the harley davidson. Put it on and take it easy if your concerned about not having a chip installed. Most Lightning guys that are running a pulley without a chip are using a 4#pulley. Good Luck!

damn richo, you're the 1st member i've seen that was registered here in 1998, and you have such few posts too. i couldn't do it

anyway, like said above, the trucks have different computer programs. running 4lbs of extra boost on a L with a 4 pounder, is practically the same thing as running 4lbs of extra boost on a HD with a 4 pounder.
better be safe than sorry

I have been through so many trucks since 1998 and most times I would email an answer or question to the user. The following list will tell you how many. Let me tell you that I have been a Ford man my whole life, including 13 Mustangs......

1999 Red Dodge Dakota R/T
1999 Blue GMC Extend Cab 4WD Siera
2000 Red Extended Cab 4WD F150
2001 Red SuperCrew F150 4WD 5 inch Lift
2001 Red Crew Cab F250 4WD 9.5 inch Lift Kit

As you can see, I have been partial to 4WD trucks and have spent most of my online time at other sites like Ford-Diesel.com...
