bassani xhst question

I found one good picture of the Bassani on an HD ( 01-02 model ) it shows 2 pipes from where the factory Y pipe looked to be at, then went directly to the muffler, a DI/DO I guess, it was not in the picture.

I am looking to see if anyone else has put on a Bassani on an HD, to see if it now includes the X pipe ( seems to be different then the L X Pipe ).

The question I am looking to get answered, is should I get the HD system, or the Cat back system which is a SI/DO like the Gibson ST system that in on there now ( or if the Bassani system is about par with the Gibson, and I am tossing 500+ down the tubes ).

I am real serious now that Tim lowered the price on the system, after kicking it around for ~ 6 months.

If all turns out alright, I should have a Gibson ST dyno sheet, and then a Bassani Dyno sheet as the end results, unless I am pissing cash down the drain.

Any input would be great.

Thanks from a owner of the 2nd cousin of the HD ( SCrew that is )

I was told direct from Bassani that the X-pipe is built into the muffler.

When I got my Bassani exhaust (about 5 months ago), I got the one that is for the lightning, and it came with a x-pipe. I installed it on the truck and it works just fine. I have a 02 HD.

Mbrumit, what did you have to modify to use the lightning exhaust? Thanks

Nothing. It fit very well on the truck. Just had to cut more of the old exhaust pipe off in front of the muffler to install the x-pipe. About 6 to 8 inches. Thats it.

mbrumit, Nice looking truck. Is that some kind of bodie kit you have on there. Looks like the L body molding. I am Fixing to trade my 2001 L or a 2003 HD. I want to use my Bassani and that kit looks good with them.

mbrumit.... i got a question for you. i've got my exhaust exiting at the same place you've got yours. i was told that if you have the exhaust in that location, the acid in the exhaust will discolor the wheels. have you had any problems?? i would think if you took good care of them as in cleaning and polishing them regularly you wouldn't have any problems.

thanks
dan

by the way i love the body kit

I have a complete Bassani exhaust system on my '02 Harley. I went to Bassani in Anaheim, CA in early Dec. and they installed it for me. I decided to use the Lightning system, with headers, high flow cat pipes, two mufflers and tail pipes - the Lightning system. All they had to do was add two 33" extensions between the cats and the x-pipe due to the extra length of the HD, and relocate the tailpipe hanger to exit in front of the wheel. It worked out fine. The single DI/DO muffler they are marketing for the HD in the catback system does have a built-in X-Pipe. I watched them build one of the mufflers since they were using my truck as a test mule so to speak, for fit, etc., and I had originally thought about having them use the single muffler. The catback system they are marketing for the HD is a little easier to install probably since you don't have to add pieces like they did for mine.

I haven't had any problems with the exhaust fumes turning the wheels diffferent colors. I have had that problem when I run super fuel. It turns the wheels blue. Other then that no problems.
