Question Convince me....

All this talk of 9007 bulb replacements had me do some research.
The major brands that I around this board are Sylvania Silverstars, PIAA Extreme White, APC something, StreetGlow something.

For the H1 bulbs I see PIAA(s) and Hella(s), actually Optilux. Also check this company from Houston, TX called LavaLighting http://www.lavalighting.com/foglight.html . I like how their H1s are so close to HIDs. Is it worth the money? I don't have an answer.

I could get the Silverstars, 4000K*, for 19.99+tax/bulb. The PIAA Extreme White(s),4150K*, range from the cheapest of $65/pair up to $90/pair.

Convince me that I will not be kicking myself for spending almost twice on Extreme White versus SilverStars.

there have been quite a few threads on this in the L and appearance forums. the overall consensus seems to be the silverstars for the headlights, thats pretty much how i made my decision to get them, cuz i've never seen them in person, other than just pics.
from what i've read on the silverstars, they are among the brightest bulbs out there, and although it won't make the road alot brighter like HID's would, but the much whiter light makes everything more crisp and sharp looking.
I haven't heard any bad things about any of the bulbs between silverstars and PIAA's, but i'd stay away from APC and streetglow for headligt bulbs

For the H1 bulbs I see PIAA(s) and Hella(s), actually Optilux
I know a few guys are planning on trying the Hellas for the fogs, but Teknics did have PIAA's in his 02HD for a few months, before they both blew, and one melted the wiring harness or something like that. he put the stock bulbs back in, and they worked for a little while, but now he said neither of them work no matter what.
so if i were you, i'd go with the hella fogs bulbs 1st.

i'm just gonna sit back and let somebody else be the guinnea pig this time

let us know what you decide and how everything holds up

silverstars are great. they are very white and very bright. The one thing you need to remember about any bulb is stay within the stock wattage. Some have cooked foglight lenses and some have burned wires going to the heads with higher watt bulbs.

I have silverstars on mine and they are WHITE. Obviously not HID, but very white none the less.

Buy 'em, you'll like em. Don't waste your money otherwise. I have no regrets on mine and I looked at all of the bulbs out there from PIAA and others...

I am leaning towards the SilverStars because of its cost and the consensus among members here.

But like the rebel inside me, I am looking for alternatives like the PIAA Extreme White. But at the same time, instant gratification is what I seek. I could just get the SilverStars down the street whereas I have to order the PIAAs and sit around for 3 days.

Oh well I'll be the guinea pig then.

Ken, where did you get yours from? I really need to do something with mine. I guess I'm used to the lights in my GMC, which are stock, but very bright. The stock light's in the HD suck. Hook a brotha up...

i ordered the PIAA platinum whites and the hella fogs - the PIAAs are made to perform like a 110w bulb, but with the power draw of a 55w stocker. i got a good deal on them so i took it!

Update:

I bought the 9007 Silverstars for the truck.

After a stock bulb burned out on my little Toyota beater, I got the Sylvania 9004 Cool Blue, and had them until a few days ago. They were brigther than stock and not yellow. I decided to make my little Toyota the guinea pig for the 9004 Silverstars since I do a lot of night driving with it. Results, definitely brighter than Cool Blue.

Fast forward to last night, after having the Silverstars on my beater for a few nights, I jump in my Harley. What do I see? **** yellow lights I can't them stand anymore now that my beater has the Silverstars. Ok now I'm sold, I'll get them for the truck.

I have them installed now but it's still bright outside to see how well they perform.

Installing them was not that bad. I did the driver side first, which I had to take out the assembly. Putting it back on was easy, just take it slow and have the tabs pulled up so it will slide back in. The passenger side was a 20 second job , real easy.

FWIW, I have called all the parts store in my area about H1 Hella bulbs, they all said they are NO brighter than any H1. To get the H1s that look like HIDs,which are Optilux Xenon Whites, they all said its a special order. On the other had, the Optilux Xenon Whites are what the local used BMW shop puts on their cars. Owners that I talked to said, they're no better than what came with the car.

Oh well, I guess no H1s yet for us HD owners that can match the Silverstars.

For those of you wondering, my beater is 90 Toyota Tercel, 1.3 liter. With the Silverstars, it looks like a luxury car coming from behind

just curious, be even if the Hella H1's aren't any brighter than the stock bulbs, are they whiter? I don't really want any brigher foglight bulbs, mainly cuz of all the guys having problems with their bulbs blowing and frying the fogs just looking for a whiter light, and not yellow. Thanks for any info
i wonder if sylvania is planning on ever making a H1 size bulb. maybe we should all email them and bug them about it

Stock H1 Halogen compared to H1 Optilux Xenon Whites, the latter will produce LESS of the yellow hue. It will still have a little yellowish hue. I've seen them on a few BMWs that I play around with, not pure white, almost.

Got my silverstars at Autozone. They were hanging on the rack... Maybe 20-25 bucks each, can't remember.
