Question Door Locks

I have just upgraded from my '01 HD to a '03. What a difference!

My question deals with the door locks. On my '01, when I put the truck in DRIVE, all the door locks LOCKED, then when I put the truck in PARK, the door locks all UNLOCKED. On my '03, the doors all lock when I put the truck in DRIVE, but they stay locked when I put it in PARK. I checked the owners manual, but didn't see any instructions and/or programing. Hope someone can help me out.

Congrats on the new Truck. Did you have an alarm in your 2001 or a remote starter? When I first got my 2002 the locks acted the same way. Now that I have a Alarm/Remote Starter they will unlock when I turn the Truck off.

I have an '02. When I put it in drive and the truck moves they lock. When I stop they stay locked untill I unlock them. The front doors unlock when you open the door, the back doors do not. I think it is normal. Sounds like your truck is doing what it should do. If you find out otherwise let me know because I'll need to get my truck checked out.

Thanks guys for the responses. The '01 had a Viper alarm system that the dealership had installed when I bought it. It had a second key fob that I never used...just used the one that came from Ford. The Viper interface must have unlocked the doors when I put it in PARK.

Congrats on your upgrade Nitroman. There are no factory features for the auto un-lock when going back into Park that I know of. The only programming I know is to disable the auto locking feature that is in one of my manuals.

As mentioned the front doors will unlock when opening the door. If the rear door(s) remain locked from the inside as HD 9998 mentioned, it is probably because of the child safety feature. I believe there is a small switch on the rear doors near the locking latch to enable and disable that feature, at least my '01 SCrew had them there. I hardly carry passengers with my HD, so my rear doors are rarely used.
