Lightning Tails

I am looking to get a set of Lightning Tails for my 2002 HD. Is there anything I need to know before doing this? Do they fit with the same hardware?

Major, you will need to use some 1/4 inch washers for spacers (about 1/4" worth). Otherwise the long stock screws will penetrate through the lights. Be careful!

I had the mounting screws on mine cut down about a 1/4" using a friend's Dremmel. Otherwise it was a quick and simple installation.

I heard the clear Head and Taillights used to be real reasonably priced from Ford. Then they realized the clear stuff is getting popular and approximately quadrupled their prices. I was going to update my headlights until I found this out.

yeah, the dealers are crazy on the prices. L tails used to be 37 bucks a piece back in 01, now they are like 330 for the set

keep an eye on the classifieds though, sometimes there are 02L tails for sale brand new for 250, and 02HD or 02L headlights and cornerlights for 400

but yeah, for the L tails you have to shim the screws. you can see if you hold the screw up to the light before you install it how deep it will go in. i ended up using like 1/4" of washers at the top and about 1" at the bottom i'd rather be safe than sorry. then i spent 3 bucks and just got the L screws from the dealer cuz they fit better anyway, and no worries installing them

If you call Danny Baxter at John Bleakley Ford and tell that Rich O'Connell told you to call him, he will sell them to you for 108.00 per tail light. Call Danny at 1-800-328-8517 or 770-941-5300. Good Luck!!!

Shipping?

I have a friend (friend of a friend, actually) that works at Ford and he won't give them to me less than cost plus 10%. Which, according to him is $250 for the set.

I live out in Cali. Would your friend ship these? I'd rather pay the shipping than give my "friend" my money.

Any idea on what the price would be on the lightning 3rd brake light?

Thanks!

$108 ea. is probably the best deal your gonna find. and I believe that is the employee price.

I ordered the screws while I was at it. Ford P/N N808955S301 and they were $1.84 for a package of 4 ea.

I called and ordered. They were 128.00 a piece.
Thanks for the help guys. I am also going to pick up the screws for the lights. I guess I just don't want to risk breaking anything with the long screws.

Again Thanks....

Wade

Thumbs up

Just called and placed my order too.

Said these were the last set he has on hand. He was out of screws but it only takes 3-4 days to get more in, so I ordered those as well. That'll be appearance mod #2.

Nice guy. Thanks for the info.
