Magnaflow Muffler?
Magnaflow Muffler?
My pops has been driving his 02 Harley now for a few months...and I think the Mod bug may have finally gotten to him. I've got him closed on a Dr. Gas X Pipe...but the guy doing the install will have to look at the truck prior to the install to make sure Dr. Gas sends him everything he needs. In the meantime..I figured a Magnaflow Muffler would help out. I have been reading the board here and it seems that the Magnaflow Muffler Part # 14221 is the one to go with. Am I correct here? We can just weld that thing right up where the stock one was and leave the stock tips right?? I figured my pops would like that. We also placed an order for the stock lightning pulley and the Pro M MAF. Anyone heard anything about this combo?? I was told that if we went with the Lightning Pulley we would have to add a chip or a MAF...so I figured the MAF would be the better choice since all these guys are seeing great gains from them (and its practically a K&N Filter as well). The only thing is waiting for PRO M to get on the ball and get that thing back to us!! Any of yall have any thoughts on the stock muffler setup? I was thinking since my pops doesnt want something real loud...that we could leave its stock muffler if it flowed well...and just go with the Dr. Gas Offroad X Pipe. I dont know though. Thanks in advance.

Several things...
#1--Welcome aboard, and enjoy, err, tell your Dad to enjoy the truck
#2--With just an upper pulley change to to a stock L pulley (adds 2 lbs boost)--you don't have to get a chip yet. If you go 4lbs or more, get one.
#3--Don't waste your money on a MAF or X-pipe yet--you don't need them. The Magnaflow #14468 has an internal x-pipe. You will need to fabricate new head pipes coming into the muffler since the stocker has the inlet pipes 90 degrees rotated from the outlet. You can see what I'm talking about if you look... The MAF will add some top-end power, but do all the more cost effective mods first--$400 or so for 5-10 rwhp is questionable at this point.
#4--If it were me, I would leave the upper pulley alone... add your boost with the lower. No problems with bearing damage in the snout, less visible evidence of modification should you need to return to stock, less problems of belt slippage from the smaller upper pulley.
#5--Decide how much power you want and then design a mod program to get you there--I wanted 400+ rwhp and 500+ rwtq... mission accomplished with minimal hassle--just a lower pulley, K&N filter, set of plugs, chip and muffler.

14221 is SI/DO if i'm not mistaken, and you will need a DI/DO for the 02.
never heard of Dr. Gas X pipe on the boards before though
not many people go with a different MAF censor. its already got a 90mm one. there are other mods that are better worth the money and more power increase than that as a 1st mod
and about the stock muffler, if the truck is brand new, don't worry about the muffler yet if you just want it a little louder. i was really disappointed when i 1st got my truck, but after a few K miles, and the truck was broken in, the exhaust deepened up and sounds perfect now....although i still want louder
the other guys above got it pretty good, so i'm not gonna repeat what they say again.
and welcome to the site!!! post pics and build # for that HD when you get a chance

I am getting two Magnaflows installed with my long tube headers Monday, I will see if I can get a video clip so that you can hear them.

what part# on the magnaflows - i just swapped my 40 series flowmasters for something a little quieter in the cab, and the mags definitely have a totally different sound then the flows.

Magnaflow is releasing a new full system designed for the HD-F150 soon. They used mine as the model and I am expecting to get the first production version installed very soon. The tips are routed to the stock position so it will look stock but sound and perform much better. The dyno saw about 18 HP increase.
Just FYI in case you want to wait.

What kind of kit are you talking about? Catback? Or is this including free flowing high flow cats? Where did the 18 rwhp come from, just a muffler setup? And how much money are we talking about? And one last question, how much louder was it than stock? I'm not looking for something alot louder than stock. I came from flows on a 99' cobra and those days are over, lol. TIA.

Hey Irutt
You got me very interested in the Magnaflow 14486 with the built in x-pipe. However I cant seem to find anything except the 14468. Is that a typo on your part or are my resources not very resourceful? Thanks if you can clear this up.
Typo... #14468 is a 24" polished stainless, 2.5" dual inlet/dual outlet (with 4" center to center on the pipes) with the internal x... that's what I have. Love the sound on heavy acceleration
.... listening to it on the chassis dyno made the hairs on the back of neck stand up! Does have some drone at 65-70 mph cruise... no problem at 75+
.
I also considered a #14589--28" polished stainless, DI/DO (5 3/4" center to center)... Magnaflow told me it would have no drone, but would also be a lot quieter.
I likely will spring for the Magnaflow catback in a few months...
