Question HID or Xenon?

I am thinking about a headlight upgrade. I am not sure real HID bulbs are worth the price. The cheapest "real" HID I found were a set made by Philips(LVQ 212) for $700. I can get the simulated HID using Xenon gas for anywhere between $80-$12 for the pair. Does anyone think the real HID are worth it. I have a friend with the HID that come stock in his beemer but I don't know anyone with the Xenon ones to compare the two.

IMHO the only kit you should consider is the Sylvania HID Xenarc kit. The lights are a simple drop in, and are a complete HID system. You can get them $499 from suvlights.com.

yup, what Ayrton said about the Xenarc's.

if it was me though, i don't do anywhere near enough night time driving to drop that kind of money for better lighting, but if you've got the bucks and do alot of night driving, they are probably worth it

i chose the more appearance look, and got a set of 02 HD headlights, and i'm going to get a set of Sylvania silverstar headlight bulbs which are about 25 bucks for each bulb. i've heard nothing but awsome things about these bulbs. A little brigher than stock, but the biggest reason i'm getting them is cuz they are a white light, not yellow like the stock ones

even has a little frosted HD logo on the outside corner lense in the orange reflector strip

psssst...hey Ayrton, i think you need to clean the inside of your rims. LoL...not like i have much room to talk, my truck is filthy right now. LoL. gotta wash it this weekend

The main reason I am thinking about is because wan the bright white blue tint no the yellow. It is not really to improve my night time driving. I just didn't know if the Xenon's really worked.

Josh, if you only knew….

My poor truck is sitting on jack stands with no wheels on it at all. I sold the stock ones before the new ones arrived, and I have no wheels that will clear the brakes. The wheels will not arrive until mid January. I also have some body mods I am working on, so I really don’t know when I will be back on the road.

The next time you see my truck, it will look like no other HD.

Well, there is the less expensive way, and there is the correct way. The Sylvania kit is a “real” HID system. http://www.sylvania.com/xenarc/

i thought you were about to say they were stolen!
snap some pics for us though while its "under construction"
what all are you doing to the truck? or is it a secret until you get it all finished.
can't wait to see how it looks when its done.

Palumbon, if you do jsut go with the bulbs route, i'm tellin ya, get the sylvania silverstars. most others are either cheapo and don't last long or burst, or are blue coated bulbs, which are illegal, and actually make you able to see even less at night. do a search on the appearance forum. there have been quite a few posts about those bulbs. they have a little slight blueish tint, and a really nice white light.
i might try out some Hella's in the foglights though like ricekicker is gonna do so the fogs match the heads. can't have white headlights and yellow fogs now can i?

btw, headlight size is 9007, foglight size is H1

I went with the Sylvania Silverstars, and am very satisfied with them. I also upgraded the driving lights. I got my Silverstars on ebay, for 47.00 a pair, with a 10.00 rebate, brought the price down to 37.00. I heard they were 40.00 a pair at Wallyworld, but haven't seen them there yet.

hey dave, where did you get your lower grille from? i'm sure alot of 01 guys would be interested in getting one since they got a black one also, and the Jjent grille won't match for them

and what bulbs do you have in your fogs? and what wattage are they? when i get my silverstars i'll be looking for a fog bulb that will sort of match the color in light so i won't have white headlights and yellow fogs

thanks

It all depends on the money you plan on spending. 50 bucks and 500 bucks is a big difference. So its all up to you how much you want to spend

I decided to go with the Sylvania Silverstars. Passed the message onto "Santa" so he knows what to put under my tree. Also told him to get the driving lights, but I am not sure if he will be getting both.

Xenarcs... Hands down, no doubt.

I went from Xenon to HID (Xenarcs) and these things are the best thing since sliced bread..... and damnit, sliced bread is AWESOME!

Get the HID. More than worth $499 and honestly, if I had known I was going to like them as much as I do, I would've bit the bullet and payed $800... because they're worth all that and more.
