Thumbs up

Thanks for the link. Maybe one day I will be able to afford something brand new to use this technique on.

POPPYC OCK!!! Oh Oh... Bad word bad word bad word.........

Seriously, this guy is a water head! A fresh engine must be run at varying loads not to exceed 2500 RPMs for the first 50 to 100 miles.(Not to mention its first 20 minutes of life at 2000 RPMs to break in the cam.) Not to exceed 3000 RPM until the 1000 mile mark.

hey, i didn't say you had to believe it, just thought it was interesting reading

i broke my HD in nice and easy and not a single problem yet (knock on wood) Although, them saying the 1st hundred miles are the most important, then i have no idea how my truck was broken in, cuz when i bought it new from the dealer it has 125 miles or something like that already on it

Josh...that is a lot of miles for a new truck -

Mine had 35 and I thought that was a lot. Usually they come with something between 5-25. Unless they were like a demo or something.

I guess Im on the fence about this issue. Thats not the only time Ive heard about ring sealing and break in like that.
and I think his reasoning is correct...to a point.
in order to have the rings seat, they have to scrub themselves into the cyl walls, and the fastest way to do this is to bring the engine up to operating temp, and put a sustained heavy load on it. Not necessarily a full throttle run, but just a heavy load will do the trick.

But...he talking about bike engines and such, I dont think I would try that with my truck, maybe somebody else???

I talked with a guy that has been hopping up VW engines since the 60's and he told me the same break in procedure, said it works like a charm, and I have no reason to doubt him, his sandbuggy runs like a striped @ss ape...and its never been apart in over 10 seasons of hard duning.

yeah i know ricekicker, but not much i could do. it was the only one they got in at that dealership, and one of the few that were sold in this whole area. but look at my build date vs when i bought it. built may 18th and bought july 3rd. almost 2 months for them to play around wiht my truck The truck was actually setup to be sold before i got it, but luckily the guys fianancing fell through!

and this is from teh same dealership that when i took it in to get a paint defect fixed, they had the truck for 2 days and put 90 miles on it

My truck had 97 miles on it. It set on the lot with 12 other HD's and I drive it like I stole it and so far, no problems......cept the ticket.

I do plan on switching over to synthetic the next oil change...it's got 11,000 on it in four months.
