Is there much of a crowd following at these things? I think it would be fun to go and watch..I couldnt participate because my truck has a total loss of power running 35's with stock gears.
sdiesel316,
There is usually a pretty good crowd at New Lexington and a very good crowd at Glenford. We usually make a day of it and take a cooler of adult beverages, a couple coolers of food.
There are more than just trucks pulling. There are a lot of tractor classes and as the day turns into night, the tractors and trucks become more powerfull and more fun to watch.
The pull this Sunday (7-22) is at the Perry County Fair. It starts pretty early in the morning, but the crowd is usually pretty good. I think that they have a pull on both Saturday and Sunday, but we are only going on Sunday.
Hope this helps! I hope to see you at one soon.
If it's any consolation, a couple of buddies of mine pull brand new F350's with the Powerstroke Diesel. They do pretty well, although, their tires aren't that big.

August 25th sounds like a good date.
Question for you though? I have two sets of tires. One set are my off-road tires which are 35" Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, the other set are the 32"/33" factory wheels. Would I be better off using the Claws for more traction but sacrificing a gearing loss or using the factory wheels and sacrifice the traction in exchange for a better gear ratio.

I forgot to ask
How much is it to enter the competition?
If I bring the family how much for them to watch or are they free if I am entered?
Do you sign up at the gate or do you have to do it ahead of time?
Are there any special requirements as far as the hitch and or any other safety devices?
You mentioned you bring a cooler. Are there any rules as far as what you can bring in?
Any other info would be appreciated.

Big pa,
Here goes...
Tires: My recommendation is to use the narrower tires for a couple of reasons. First, beleive it or not, you want the tires to spin. You want traction, but you also want the tires to spin. Too much traction = stress on the tranny = broken parts! Also, gear ratio is very important because if you can keep the RPM's up late in the run, you will go farther. So, I would go with the smaller more narrow tires.
Price: It's $10 to pull and $5 for everyone at the gate. If you place in the top 4 you will get some money back, but the payback depends on how many people show up to pull. More people = more $$. It's usually not that much though. I got 2nd a couple of weeks ago and won $7.50! It's not a sport that you are in for the money!
Sign up: Once you get there, you can hunt me down and I'll show you how to sign up. They aren't usually that crowded. I'll take you up to the 'sign up bus' and show you how to enter. You just have to be entered a few minutes before the class begins.
Hitch & Safety: There are no safety issues other than you can't have anyone ride with you. As for the hitch, you will need to be at a specific height (usually 20 inches) and you will need a clevis. Don't worry too much about that because we have 2-3 adjustable hitch inserts so you should be OK. They will measure your hitch when they weigh your truck. You have to weigh less than 5200lbs. So, if you can find a place to weigh your truck before that trip, that would be best. You may have to remove things to make weight (spare tires, tailgate etc.)
Beverages: We usually bring a cooler of food and beverages, including adult beverages. Adult beverages are not technically allowed in, but if you are discrete and don't make a scene, no one will bother you. We have been going to these for years and have never had any trouble.
If you want, we could meet somewhere and you could follow me down. It's pretty simple to find, but it might not hurt to follow someone. I can't make it tomorrow (7-28), but I should be able to go 8-25. I think making a rally out of it would be cool.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
