I saw Ted Kennedy talking about how they plan to censure Lott for his recent comments, and I just started thinking to myself, "I guess growing up with no consequences for your actions and thus leaving a young woman to drown after you drunk-drive her to her death is ok (all the while in an attempt to cheat on your wife), but getting up on the fly to say a bunch of nice stuff about an old-guy means you're racist...
I've got a newsflash, many people who are white and that old believed in segregation at one time. When my grandfather passed, I got up and said what a great guy he was (and he did have many great qualities), but he was a racist till the end. What was I supposed to say - here lies a bigot??? In reality, I lose respect for the NAACP more and more everyday, and their fly-off-the-handle attitude for looking crosseyed at someone of color...
I'm wondering if Ted will come and censure me personally for praising racist relatives (lord knows that was my intent when I got up to speak)...The good news is that I live near a lake, so I think chances are he won't reach my house.....I only hope he doesn't have a passenger with him this time....

I agree the enviornment of PC is absurd. Views, agree with them or not, are yours. Doesn't make you a bad person either. Taking things out of context is another issue. I don't like Mr Lott, however I wouldn't use such a lame tactic to ask for his resignation. I would let his actions do him in. We all put our foot in our mouths sometimes even mispell things
That single moment shouldn't define us completely.

You made a very good point about "following party lines for the sake of the party is ignorance" One should never follow any particular party lines. However, I consider myself a Republican and conservative at that because most of "my" beliefs lean towards that side of things. I do not always follow "the" party lines if my beliefs are not in line.
For instance I do not believe in "segregation" in ANY form. It is completely wrong and immoral. It goes against my main core belief that a person must have the chance to do for themselves, to make themselves into someone productive and self reliant on themselves. Segregation only holds "particular" people back from accomplishing things they set out to do on their OWN.
The Democratic party, in my opinion, practices a form of segregation to this present date. They try to segregate races from one another, to pit one race against another race. They try to segregate the people that do well from the people that don’t or are just lazy. They try to segregate kids in school that do well and are very smart from the kids that are not smart, or just don’t try and continue to be stupid. In other words the Democratic party tries to hold back particular segments of our society so as to let another segment move forward or have it they way they want.
That is no different than back in the 30’s, 40’s, 60’s when this country had blacks sitting in the back of the bus, or not allowed them in the military, or not to have certain jobs. Now that has been corrected and granted we are still working towards repairing that damage. My question is when are people going to start coming forward and calling the Democratic party on it and making them feel shameful for doing the very same thing, in a different form, at this present date.
Segregation is nothing more then keeping one group of people separated from another group, either physically or mentally (hating, jealous etc).
So you might be a Republican if:
You do NOT believe in segregation in ANY form...

Morning 01,
Was waiting to see ya, just poking a bit of fun on these threads lest we get too serious. I see ya upset the Canadian and made him lose his cool.
I know I am a dedicated Ford fan when: I spend all my net time on here and at the explorer site.

Top of the morning to you as well Rugby3:
Fun is good, need to lighten things up at times. To be honest I am not "yet" sure just what it is I said that set the poor ol' boy up north off. I am hoping it is not simply a "drive-by posting".
I must say it makes one feel good to see his friends come out in support of my right to say what I believe. I know some of the support comes from people that may not believe with anything I say, or little, or some. Never the less it goes to show that when someone starts messing with someones family, watch out.
I love good debates, heated or not, it provokes thought and dialog between people that may have different beliefs, or come from different backgrounds and help people to better understand how some people "really" think about situations, problems, and possiblie solutions to problems.
Are my solutions that I offer the answer to some of the problems? Could be, and then could be not. At least once you start actually discussing solutions, rather then calling names, you can come to a solution, even if its not just what I think will work it is a start.
Ideas come from all people, some people even liberals have ideas that I have never thought of. I can say this, just because an idea may come from a liberal or who ever I think about it seriously before I commint on it good or bad. I have my core beliefs, but that does not mean I would never consider a different idea other then mine in solving a problem to do so is just ignorant and serves very few if any, basically a road block and we have to many of those today.
Hopefully my friend from the north will come back and give me some feedback to his concerns with me and if possible when he is done he will "feel" all warm and fuzzy....

Not an original, but pretty good
A Republican and a Democrat were walking down the street together when they came upon a homeless person. The Republican gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come to his business for a job. He then took twenty dollars out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person.
The Democrat was very impressed, when they came upon another homeless person, he decided to help. He walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. He then reached into the Republicans' pocket and gave the homeless person fifty dollars.
Now do you understand the difference between a Republican and a Democrat?

Think what made our friend up north mad was the statement
"You might be a Liberal if:" "
I hope that you are NOT right. If that is the case it would truly be sad indeed. I hope it is over a particular stand I have on a subject rather then something so general as "You might be a Liberal if:"
I posted that, for fun, to counter trapper's thread of "You might be a Republician if:" I have a great deal of respect for trapper. We disagree on some subjects, but he is good people and that is all that matters and I thought it would be some fun for "Fair and Balanced" threads here on F150...
Hopefully the poor ol' boy from up north will be by. If it is simply because of the thread itself then I am afraid there won't be much to discuss or debate with him. Thats sad when you can't discuss or debate with someone because of a closed mind. My gut feeling is that his concerns have to be about a particular stand I have taken on a subject, I just don't know what subject it would be.
S'CrewLoose: That would be funny if it wasn't the truth...

Hey 01 ,
I hope so too , but when asked his views or what specifically bothered him . He just disappeared . To me it would seem the whole thread pissed him off or it just befuddled him . I agree debate is good so we can see the pros and cons of ALL sides .
I hope we didn't scare him off . Some people have thin skin and can't deal with confrontation ie the name calling . Personally I think this would be a great place for that type of person .

At this point it looks like it was a random "drive-by posting"... LOL
Maybe he thought his post would draw others out to blast me for some of my positions on different subjects. Then when people came out in support of me and saying what I believe in, not necessarily my positions on anything, but just having the ability to say what I believe I think that kind of messed up his thought process.
At this point I don't think we will see him back. However, I would lay some good money on it if just one person posted basically saying what he did and/or completely blasting me with nothing to back it up (i.e. their own solution proposals) if that happens he would be back in a heart beat.
I would say that if that does happen pay attention to the other persons "post count" if its really low like 5, 10, etc it just may be him with a different name.

Very well put
I am a Republican, and quite frankly that is a perfect example of the difference in thinking between the two parties.

That can be hard for alot of people on who should they vote for. My advice is to not worry about what their title may be, be it republician, democrate, independant, etc.
For your local elections I would pay attention to the different candidates and see what their positions are. Then see who you seem to agree with the most. You will never agree with anyone all the time. You need to look at it like who believes the way you do the most. Don't matter what they are.
For example if you believe your local schools should have more funding and the roads need to be resurfaced, and you need a new fire station and a particular person is in favor with all but say a new fire station, yet the other one only believes in a new fire station but none of the other things then go with the one that you feel is closes to your beliefs. It may be republican, may be a democrate, or the independant.
Same for federal, or the national elections. There you don't worry so much about local issues as you do the countries overall issues. You would want to, the best you can, find out where the different candidates stand on the issues you have strong beliefs in. Again you will not find one that has ALL yours. Your looking for the person that closest represents your beliefs, and core values.
The other key is to see what a candidates track record is. They may be saying "I want to fund our schools, send me back and I will make sure it happens" When you take a look at their record you see that most if no all the time they vote against school funding.
Words mean NOTHING, action is KEY.

Alas I knew him well ( some of my luxury aka education showing
)Actually I'd have to say that about 90 % ( 92.3 % to be exact ) of that first list is correct about me.
The commies part...rememebr the phrase kill a commie for your mommy
Still holds true today....Also when I think of Marx...think of the ?***** head that stabed him in the base of the neck with an ice pick in Mexico City.
Now why did he go and do that. He was already trying to hide...guess it didn't work so well
