my wife drives a 98 F150 XLT extended cab with a whole lot of miles on it. i was wondering what general information somebody can throw out to me to help me know about this truck. so far i have learned that expeditions are basically the same truck from the front seat forward. it has a 4.6 V8 that is a major task to have the spark plugs changed! what other year models are the same? i think the 4th door came out in 99, cause i only have a 3rd door. had a dome light prob, but fixed that on my second day on this board any links to aftermarket stuff. track times? how much longer should my engine last. any information would be appreciated. thanks

addicting-- i know. its like being a baby in a candy store. there is so much information i dont know where to start. and trust me, i know nothing about these trucks. i have my camaro and have been modding that for the past 2 years and know nothing about my wifes truck whatsoever.
and yes, the search is great- thats how i fixed my door/ajar/domelight problem. i just had so many searches i felt like i was reading every single post ever written. i know now i just have to slow down a bit.
i just figured somebody might have a piece of information they think is a god sent. yeah that is kinda too broad, but any info is good.
too make this easier, can somebody tell me how long these engines are good for?

 

I had the door ajar thing happen to my 98 last winter. the dam dome light wouldnt go off so i pulled the fuse. Well i got tired of not having interior lights so i put in back in and sprayed the hell out of the door jamb with WD-40. Its worked ever since. And the dealer wanted 280 bucks for new switches, wiring, etc
Theres not much i can say about your 4.6 other than its a good vehicle but possibly a little lacking in power. Just treat her nice and give it routine maintence and she'll be fine for years to come!

 

thanks! stuff like that is what i was looking for. i now see there is a 5.4. so my wife has the "wimpy" V8. i'll have to tell her. she is allways dissing on my V6 camaro. hehe i thought triton ment something special??? it does feel better than any 6 though.

what my wife is looking to do is get those mirrors with the turn signal in them. she wants to get leather seats front and back and new carpet. i would have done intake/exhaust but all that money went to my car.
eventually i want to get what she wants and then maybe a nintendo for the kiddos.
