electric choke?

i just got a 85 tempo, but the choke doesnt work.
found out the pull off isnt working.
so after looking around a bit i touch the electric thing on the side of the carb, and its HOT!!, key is turned off?

my question should this have continous power or just when the key is on?

so far i followed the wire back to the top plug of the alternator, and if i unplug this connector the power turns off from the choke,
could it be something in the alterntor?

I don't know much about tempos or chokes but it sounds like there is always supposed to be power to the choke and a switch or something controls it's ground. So if it is on all the time you either have a switch stuck closed, or a short to ground an the ground side of the circuit.

it seems to me ther power should be switched to the choke. It grounds through the carb. Does the wiring look like it has been worked on?? There might be something wrong with the alternator, if I remember correctly, there should be 2 large wires and one small wire from that plug in the alternator. The two large ones will constantly have power and the small one will be switched. (If I have the correct alternator in mind there will be another plug with two wires coming out of it).

yes thats the one!!!
i have power to the 2 large wires and none to the small one, when unplugged from the alt

there is also the other connector on the alt with 2 wires from it.
that plug into some sort of module on the alt.

the wiring looks 100% original, no cracks splices nothing.
any ideas??
