Unhappy Fighting New Truck Temptation

My lease is up on my truck in a month, and it's time to buy it or get another. I desperately want a new one - but don't want the new truck payments to go along with a new truck. I also don't want to buy mine because I don't like it a whole lot - it's not what I wanted three years ago - but the deal was too good to pass up.

I want something new so bad I can taste it. I eat, sleep, and talk about a new truck constantly. I search for new trucks on the internet at work, at home, even while visiting family for Thanksgiving.

Financially, it would be best if I keep my truck. Mentally, I NEED a new truck! I've driven all sorts of trucks already F150's, Super Duty's, Etc. : my mental distress has even caused me to test drive Dodge Rams and even the Chebby Avalanche!

Does anyone have any suggestions on fighting the new truck urge? If I don't stop talking about a new truck soon, my wife may shoot me.

GL

Well, you can get some great deals on new trucks right now...

and, do you want to buy out your lease and be making even MORE payments on a truck you say you dont really care for?

I know you can go on a month-month lease continuation if you need a little more time to find the right truck/deal.

IMO, I think it makes more sence to be paying on something you enjoy

~~~prices and finance rates are awfully good right now......
Goneloco,
Me thinks Bikenut soundeth much as a truck salesman.
I have to admit that he is right though. I avoid leasing because I don't want to pay for something that will never be mine. Makes a little sense with a house if you are not going to live in it for a long time but not for a vehicle. Especially if you don't like it
Some questions for you to answer:
1. Are there any loaded guns in the house?
2. Will your wife get pissed "if" you get another truck?
3. If yes, will you be able to live with her under that condition?
4. Do you know when you will die?
Ok, lets take this one at a time. First if number one is "Yes" GET THEM OUT OF THE HOUSE ASAP.
For number two you really need to know the answer if yes or no. If she will be pissed can you really live with that compared to this addiction. It is an addiction that there is currently NO cure for.
For number four, you should have answered "No". Since you don't know that answer you have to live life and be happy. If getting another truck makes you happy (and who doesn't) and your wife wont get pissed off then you should just go for it. Look for a good deal and "Just do it"
You will always have a good excuse for doing it and that is there is not currently a cure for the "NTD" (new truck diease) or addiction.
LOL! Naww, not me, I hate the general public too much!
I was just in the same kinda situation with my Tahoe; it was a lease and I was just a bit mad at it for failing me but my wife liked it. Finally I decided that I didnt want to pay 3 years on a lease and then another 4-5 years on the purchase of a vehicle that didnt make the payments feel worth while. Besides, 7-8 years of payments on ANY car is too much for me.
Ah heck, get the new truck with ALL the bells and whistles!! Work a little overtime and be happy!!
Your in a tough situation, I know. I fight the temtation all the time. I like the truck I have but the prospect of a new ride excites me. I'm used to making payments so that's not a big deal to me.
I've looked at the Dodge too. I think it a pretty nice truck. The config. I would be looking for, a reg cab style side 4.7 5-speed, is pretty cheap. The major problem I see with it is it's a Dodge.
I've looked at the Avalanche too, and laughed and laughed! That thing is butt ugly! It might have some cool features but.... well it's just funny looking. The Escalade EXT is a little better looking, a little, but the price is way up there. If you are thinking a GM, there are better alternatives.
The next gen F150's will be out next year. Though we don't actually know what it looks like it shoule be a stout truck. They'll be introducing the 24 valve V8's.
It's a tough decision to make. What ever you do you should be ok, as long as the wife is ok with it.
Good luck!
When I got my truck in late December 1999, I was looking for a four wheel drive Supercab in any color other than black. All my prior vehciles had been black, so I wanted something new. When truck shopping, I found a left over 1999 on the edge of the lot. It was a two-wheel drive Supercab Lariat, in black. Although I wanted a 4x4, the deal was way too good to pass up. The dealership really wanted to move that truck!
4X4 and color, thanks goneloco, that makes sense.
I was curious because now people have to decide between Harley, King Ranch, Heritage etc... but, in '99 there was just the Lariat, which is what you have and I was wondering what caused you to not 'like' it or what other variation you preferred.
Well......Just thought I'd pop in here for a minute. I went around to all the dealerships again on Saturday afternoon. Found two trucks we liked, and could afford. The first one, a arizona beige supercrew, was my first choice. The price was right, but the salesman was playing games with financing. I've had problems with this dealership before, and was growing tired of their garbage. To make a long story short, I left knowing that I will never return.
The only other truck we halfway liked was a quadcab Dodge sport. It looked nice, drove nice, had more interior room than my current supercab, and was cheaper than the Ford. The downside? It's black and it's a Dodge.
The salesman treated us much better than we'd been treated at any of the four Ford lots we'd been to, so we decided to "talk numbers" for kicks and grins. I soon realized that they truely wanted to sell me the truck, so the little lady and I got serious. After an hour and a halk of negotiation, I was presented with a deal too good to pass up so, against my best judgement, we got the Dodge.
Since I'm planning on ditching the Dodge in about three years in favor of a new F150, I think I'll stick around and monitor life here on F150Online. This is the best truck-related website out there and I hope it remains a quality and sucessful site.
