Anybody into Go-Carts?
I am wanting to get a Go-Cart for the family for Christmas, preferably a two-seat adult size cart.
I have looked at Yerf Dog, Manco and Carter. Anybody know if one brand is better than the other? They all seem to use Tecumseh engines for the most part. Any differences I should be looking at? I would like to not spend more than about $1,500.
Thanks.

I had a Manco Dingo 5 and a Dingo Deuce X. The 5 was a far better machine, but I think it had to do with the True Value Hardware that put it together. The X had all kinds of problems, but was always fixed half-assed. Tires usually wear pretty quickly on those suckers if you drive them on the road too much. They are a blast, though! I miss my old kart now.

i bought a gocart my fresh yeari n high school and restored it. I also bought a rear axle from a 4 wheeler and my dad adn i fabricared it to fit. I put a black vinyl seat from a Taurus on it, a 8hp belt driven Briggs& Stratton, put 23" tires on the back, a custom muffer that makes it sound like a harley, and a bright red paint job. Total invested-1100 bucks. But i still got it. Runs with fourwheelers pretty well on and off road....my buddy did clock me with his car at 38 when i decided to drive it 2 miles up to the hopital on black top! talk about weird looks from passers-by!

We bought our kids a two seater 5hp go cart several years ago. Its been fun for the whole family and has plenty of power and speed to be fun and safe.
The "roll bar" keeps it from going under vehicles and other low objects. A few years ago, a kid was killed near here when they drove a go cart under a parked truck.
Newer ones also have shoulder belts and lap belts, ours only has the lap belts.
Another thing to consider that I didn't think about at the time is the rear axle. Lower priced models (around $900) only drive and brake on one rear wheel. This is not a problem on dry pavement or hard ground, but can be a pain in loose soil like sand, as you'll just dig holes and not be able to move. It can also tear up a good lawn quickly.
Shopping center parking lots on Sunday afternoons ( when the stores are closed) make great go cart tracks!
