Sometimes I can't understand salespeople
Sometimes I can't understand salespeople
Some salespeople have got to be the stupidest people. They act like they are doing you a favor selling you a truck.
First week of July I was in the market for a used Screw. Found the truck I wanted at a local ford dealer about 20 miles from my house. Worked the guy as hard as I could for about 3 days, we were $1000 apart on price and I walked. I kept looking and 2 weeks later found basically the exact same truck (one had buckets, other had bench; one had standard chrome wheels, other had FX4 wheels; one had a hard tonneau, other didn't). I felt the wheels was a even swap for the tonneau. Truck #2 was 150 miles away, worked the deal on the phone bought #2 for $1500 less than truck #1. I was happy, love the truck.
Today I pull into a local Lincoln dealership, shopping for a LS and setting on their used lot is truck #1. I can't believe it, check the VIN and sure enough it was the truck I tried to buy in July. Asked the salesperson about the truck and he said they got it from another local ford dealer. When I tried to buy the truck it was at Landers Ford, they sold it to Dobbs Ford and they sold it to Schilling Lincoln Mercury. Dealers are willing to sell trucks between themselves and make pennies but let an educated consumer try to buy a truck at a fair price and they try to hold you hostage. I really should care less but it kind of pisses you off when the first dealer obviously had enough markup in the truck to take your offer but decided to let you walk. By the way, the current dealer has a lower price than the first dealer.

Some people are a$$holes. I bet that first dealer thought he had a sucker. You sure showed him huh? I hate people like that. Car salesmen have the sleeziest jobs in the world. They try to make a fool out of everybody.
I understand your rant, I hate sales people too, they are pond scum. (no offence to anyone, I know you gotta make a living, lol)
99% of sales people try to 'squeeze' the customer for every drop they can, it's in their blood, and that's how they are trained.
I don't really hate them for trying to make as much profit as possible, what I despise is how they think everyone that walks in is stupid.
I learned a long time ago when buying a vehicle from a dealer...
Get everything in writing ahead of time, every last item, because if you don't, that's when the surprises pop up.
" Thanks for ordering your new truck from us Mr Smith, we appreciate your business, it should arrive in 4-6 weeks, and hang onto your trade until you take delivery of your new truck"
"Ok great, so you're sure I will get $10,500 for my trade?"
"Absolutely, it shouldn't be a problem"
** Then when they day comes, all of a sudden your trade is worth $8,300.
Avoid phrases like "That should be fine", or "I can't see that being a problem"
These guys are like politicains, always leaving themselves an out to weasal you later.
And don't let them try to steal your trade either (which they always try)
When I was shopping for my truck, the first dealership I went to, they start giving me the "You're a Retard" treatment right away.
I'm walking around on the lot, and this young pimply faced kid comes running out to greet me (Like a puppy dog with his tongue hanging out)
"Good afternoon Sir!!! How can I help YOU?"
"I would like to know the price of this truck, this one right here"
"Oh that one, yeah, she's a beauty aint she? Well Sir, if I run inside and run the numbers, will you sign the paperwork today if the price is good?"
"No I won't"
"If I work really hard for you , and get you a price you are happy with, then will you sign today?"
"NO, are you hard of hearing? All I want from you right now is the price, if this is a problem for you, then I have no problem finding another salesman"
"I'm sorry Sir, I was only trying to be helpful, I didn't mean to upset you, this truck right here is $40,200"
"Oh, I thought you had to go inside to run the numbers?"
"well, if you are serious about buying today, then I will ask my boss to see if he can give it to you for a better price"
Anyway, I'm not gonna ramble on.... the point is that this guy put me in a bad mood during the first 30 seconds of talking to him.
It's best to treat them with the respect they deserve, don't answer any personal questions, don't give them any chance to chisel you later, and be straight-forward and blunt
I love being rude to the salesmen that are aholes, feels so good cutting them off right at the knee caps.
If anyone needs someone to negoiate their new truck deal, call me, I'll do it for free.
The payment of being able to frost their *** is all the reward I need.

JDMnAR, I live just south of Memphis and I looked at every dealer within 200 miles. I bought my truck from Landers in Little Rock; those guys were great to deal with, at least for me.
Now the Lander dealership in Benton, your home town: they are crazy. Tried to screw me on a 2wd Screw! I told them I was looking at several trucks and was going to buy the "BEST VALUE" not necessarly the cheapest. I bought a 4wd but didn't have to have a 4wd, a 2wd could have worked fine. The 2wd Lariat Screw at Benton was $1000 cheaper than the 4wd Lariat Screw in Little Rock and they couldn't understand why I was willing to pay the extra $1000. "COULD IT BE BECAUSE THE 4WD WAS WORTH $3000 MORE THAN THE 2WD" I viewed that as a good spend for future resale.
Habibi, you are right on!! Salespeople have to make a living but they are not going to make a months salary off me. There have been times I wanted to walk into the showroom, call all the salesmen together and ask "okay guys, which one of you REALLY want to sell a car today". Just cut out all the BS, I know the deal and all the #s before I walk in the door. We can make it easy or hard. Don't you wish you could interview the salesman before you allow him to make a commission off you.
Yep, I'm glad that first dealer sat on the truck for a while and had to dump it to another dealer to get it off his inventory. Guess I wasn't the only one that wasn't going to get ripped.

When I was looking to buy a used Ranger for my son I went up to the local Ford dealer on a Sunday when they were closed. Saw a nice used one that was perfect for him.
I copied the VIN # and ran it to find the previous owner. I called the previous owner to find out how much they gave him for the truck in trade............he said $6,200. The truck was priced at $10,200. I offered $8,200 and the Salesman said at that price they'll lose money.
I guess they want to make $4000 on the tradein and $4000 on the new truck. Crooks and Liars..........He should run for Congress.

Just remember, dealer #1 needs a 1999 Supercab Lariat. Dealer #2 has one... Dealer #1 trades 2001 Supercrew XLT for 1999 Supercab Lariat plus the difference in black book value...
They trade with each other to get a vehicle their customer wants, not to make money....
What are you guys doing messing around with salesmen anyway. The last four vehicles I bought I didn't see a salesman or the dealer until we were signing the papers.
I ordered the car or truck which gives you a lot more dealing room because the dealer doesn't have any money invested in the vehicle. Work up a bid using the code numbers for the vehicle and all the options that you want along with the dealer cost and MSRP. Let them know that you understand about the dealer holdback and make an offer. I typed it up and FAX'ed or E-mailed it to all the dealers within driving range. In every case I had an acceptence within a day. I never trade in, it creates more headaches in the deal than it is to sell it yourself.
By the way I bought my Screw for $200 under dealer cost. They did stipulate that I had to pick it up within 48 hours of them getting it so that it didn't go on their insurance coverage. They still made over $600 on the holdback for just backing it off the truck and calling me. The Manfacturer pays them for dealer prep. The fleet salesman said he would sell them like that all day.

Dennis, you think that was the problem
The only GM products at my house is a 81Z28 that I've been restoring and playing with for about 4 years and the BBC that is in my dragster. Otherwise Ford is getting most of the money, 01 Screw, 98 Exyp, 99 F150 FS, 99 Mazda Protege.
