Accessory Roadtrip - North or South?

I just purchased an '01 SCrew, and need to put new tires and a hard tonneau on it. Living in Washington State, the sales tax is horrific. I was thinking of taking a road trip up to Vancouver, Canada, to take advantage of the favorable exchange rate, or south, to Oregon, where there is no sales tax. (Tax in Canada is 14%, but Americans can get that returned to them).

Both are within three hours of home. I've never been to Vancouver, and I've only seen Portland while flying past on the freeway. If I timed it right, I could arrive in the morning, get the stuff installed, and be back in time for dinner.

Has anybody made a similar trip? Is it worth the effort? Ideas?

I would think that because of the favorable exchange rate, Canada would be the way (direction?) to go...but I could be wrong.
