Ad-Aware for Spy Software Detection

I was getting pop ups on my computer all the time ...mainly because my two daughters surf for hours at a time visiting many many sites and picking up spyware. I had pop up everytime I logged on to this site and asked steve if he was authorizing them. It turns out he is not and I hadn't run Ad-Aware for a week. When I did run it I found 23 different instances of spyware running on my computer. Ad-aware doesn't delete anything, iy points out what spyware is detected running on your comuter and you can delete it. If you are having problems with your computer, I suggest downloading ad-aware and running it to see whats loaded on your computer. I have no interest in Lavasoft or Ad-Aware, its just a great program.

I agree that AdAware is a great program. One thing to be aware of though. Removing the ad garbage *might* break the software that installed it. I'll use the Go!Zilla download manager as an example. If you install Go!Zilla it also installs ad software from Radiate/Aureate. If you later use AdAware to remove the Radiate/Aureate garbage then you might find that Go!Zilla no longer works.

AdAware can backup everything you choose to delete so if you later find that a piece of ad supported software on your system no longer works after cleaning with AdAware you can restore things if you really want that software.

The best way to avoid problems is not to install ad supported software to begin with. Some of this adware can make your browser unstable. Here is a good source to see if a piece of software you might be interested in contains the bonus of ad software.

Also, SpyBot works well. It finds things that AdAware doesn't and vice versa.
