I Had a "Run-in" with "The Fuzz"

So i'm on my way home tonight from downtown, when I drive into a big police road block

(traffic is backed up 2 blocks each way)
The fuzz sticks his flash-light into my truck and says:
"Yup, we're doing a seat belt check this evening, it's gonna cost you $110. if you don't have it on"

So right away I reach for my seatbelt and put it on. and give him a sheepish grin.

He says "nice truck dude, I won't give you a ticket, but wear it from now on"

So I thank him many times over and drive off into the setting sun.
Was I lucky or what? I don't recall a run in with the law in a long time.
It did make me feel good though, he could've been a hard on and gave me a ticket, but let me off with a nice gentle reminder.

Now I need a beer to calm my nerves, that was a scary situation for me.

wolf creek,

If a Law Enforcement Officer searched your car without your consent and without a reasonable, articulatable need to do so absent a warrant, then he/she committed a crime. Law Enforcement Officers may search a vehicle:

1. With a Warrant
2. With Owner/Operator consent
3. Matters of emergency (missing child, need to find a car bomb, etc)
4. Incident to Arrest of occupant
5. Inventory before impounding vehicle

Thats it. A traffic violation is not a valid reason to search your vehicle. Period.

You state that the search and stop only lasted 20 minutes? He searched an entire vehicle in 20 minutes? It takes about 30 to properly and completely search a vehicle. I make traffic stops for speeding that last 20 minutes and I never do more than look thru the window of the car. By "searched my whole truck" do you mean that he looked in the front seat area with his flashlight and under the seats? This is NOT a search, its a weapons check. If he opened a glove box or console and rummaged around, went thru stuff in the truck, or whatever, thats a search, just looking into the vehicle is NOT a search, despite what the ACLU says.

FWIW, there are officers who target teenage drivers. Its unfortunate, but it happens. However, you must remember that, statistically, people in the 16-26 age demographic account for better than 70% or criminal offenses, so its an easy mindset to slip into.

Are you in a small town? How do you know that this particular officer has a rep for bothering young people? Is it possible that the people you are hearing these things from were ACTUALLY up to no good and got caught? I can't remember any time when someone had something NICE to say about me or another officer after a meeting where they were given a ticket or arrested.

Get into the habit of driving with your seat belts on all the time.

I've always worn mine. I feel odd and unsafe if I don't wear it. I don't even drive in a parking lot without it on.

I always wear my seatbelt after going through the windshield of a '60 TBird that didn't have belts. :o

It was a nice car till that tree jumped out in front of me.

(Who is it that says "Chicks dig scars?")

he checked the whole cab console and glovebox and under the seats he started as soon as he stopped me first thing he said was get out of the truck and he started looking and i would have filed a complaint but it was a town cop and my family and i gotta live here if i filed a complaint we wouldnt be able to go 26 in a 25 we would have to come to 5 second stops at every stop sign or he would get us he would be looking for us and since there wasnt any harm done i just let it go

Small town cops have small town bosses. Go talk to the cop's boss.

When I was growing up, I tagged along with my mom and kept her company when she was getting something fixed with her car's registration. The clerk gave her some serious attitude. My mom didn't like it. She went straight from there to the mayor's office. Within a week, the clerk was transfered. It helps that my mom and the mayor were on a first name basis.

Im from small town america as alot of you are, and if youre not im sorry lol jk. I have a 98 4.6 ex cab wiht loud catback, decals, always shiney and being shown off as any teen would do. Trust me the cops know my truck. Been pulled over 11 times, 1 yes 1 warning no tickets or arrests. I did get searched one nite by 2 sherriffs. I hadnt had anything to drink and i was clean as a whistle thank god! They escorted me out of my truck to the hood, put my hands on the hood, and searched me top to bottom. Then they put me int he back seat of their car and tore the shist outta my truck. licence and reg info on the ground, seats all moved, seatcover jerked off and layin in the bed, dash compartments emptied out and lying in the floor, i mean tore the truck apart, and i sat there and watched them do it. And get this, they wouldnt let me turn my truck off either. 38 minuts of searching and bs and my truck was running. Well i got home alittle late, but no ticket or warning. I started to get mad but figured id shut up and get on my way. That sucked, but the next week a different sherrif pulled me over and saw the 12 pack under the seat and just made me pour it out , no minor in possession that nite!! But now im here at college we dont even try to hide beer cause no one cares...ahh the good life. Well if you have an interesing run in with the fuzz post it. Ive got more but im tired

I can't believe the Mounties had you dead to rights and let you slip through their fingers. You are clearly one of the most dangerous criminals in all of Canada. This report of your latest escapade tops your jaywalking thread last year and is the very reason why I don't let my children read your posts. Your day of reckoning is coming. You can't continue this life of crime without getting caught eventually. When my seatbelt cuts into me and makes uncomfortable, one word flashes through my mind, 'Habibi'! When someone steps off the curb in front of me...'Habibi'!
Where is the Justice?

yea that incedent with the sherriff letting me go after i poured out the beer was a good one, but not as good as the first degree tresspassing and destructoin of property that i was given about 2 months ago. My friend had his S-10 out on our school track when it was wet and he was powersliding around the turns-it was about midnite when i got the urgent call on my cellphone. "help dude im stuck!! i slid off in the mud" So i mashed down on the tritions gas pedal and headed toward school to get my buddy out of trouble. I pull up, find my friend, park my truck and head down to asses the situation. Well i had no sooner gotten down there when Officer Cooke came barrelling on on 2 wheels wiht lights and siren on. Dammit not again! I was not to blame here, but they cuffed me and sat me in the car and were about to take us in when the janitor came walking down there (the guy who had called police) and said to let us go and that we could fix the damage the next day. Well he let us go, and eventually my name was dropped from the incident and my buddy got a 434.50 fine for it. But when i go back home for the weekends from college everyone is like "so how was a night in jail?" when i never even went to jail. The mayor (my gf's grandpa) even chuckeled as he asked me what the hell we were doing. Oh well, i wonder what i will get into this weekend........

Now I usually don't comment on spelling errors cause I make more than my share but, I don't want you to get in trouble.
The correct spelling is 'assess'

Only a circus performer could do this...
... and head down to asses the situation...

Interesting run-ins w/ the fuzz...
their was the time I got pulled over because my truck matched the description of a get away vehicle that robbed a bank...

or the time I got pulled over for doing 95 in a 50 on a dark country road at 2:00 AM Christmas Day when I was going 50 until these headlights came flying up behind (turned out he was trying to catch up to me after he saw switch lanes without using my turn signal shortly before I turned onto the country road) - *****

or the time I got a wreckless driving ticket becasue I made a U-turn - he wrote it up as wreckless driving because U-turns aren't illegal and their was a skiff of snow on the ground (I was KY and that is a blizzard to them) - ***** #2

the only 'search' of my vehicle was for the bank robbery thing - even then he just looked under my jacket in the seat.
