up at 3AM,out the door at 3:30,drove 160 miles to my favorite dove field...in the pre dawn light i can see the dove lined up on the telephone lines,along the road for as far as i can see,hundreds of them.... the sunflowers are over 8 feet tall,no chair needed today. they're flying in groups of 10 to 12 ,close to the tops of the sunflowers.... find a nice open area in the center of the field,no one else is around...i'm in heaven... sunrise is about 7:30 today, hard to tell,it's cloudy today,with a little wind from the northeast...front came through last night and there's a chill in the air...the dove are moving now...limits 15...only put one box of shells in my pouch..a challenge to myself...take my time and pick my shots,no hurry to leave...remember,this is heaven......got my 15 now,look at my watch,9:15,look in my shell pouch,2 shells left...look up and a red winged hawk is hovering in the wind,directly over my head,not more than 10 feet up...can see his eyes looking at me...give him a wave and he,s there for a minute,then moves off perpendiculer to the wind...the gods have sent a sign...i was allowed a visit to heaven,the day is good.

 

Well dove season around here is about to close . I'm just waitin' for quail season to open .
