Would you believe that 5 men from Yemen were arrested here in Buffalo (Lackawana to be specific) & are believed to be members of Al Qaeida! This is unreal!
There are news reports every 30 min or so - not much is being said right now but the FBI is investigating & have just taken these guys away. The leader was not here - he's out of the country & I doubt he'll come back now.
Well, now Buffalo has another "claim to fame" - home of Bufflo Wings, snow & lunatics! Maybe they'll change the slogan "City of Good Neighbors" to "City of Terrorist plots" & "All American City" will become "Not ALL American City"????????

I am not 1 to be paranoid - if anything I will dismiss things that may warrant closer scrutiny or consideration. This however is REAL. These men, 3 of whom were born here & 1 who was a naturalized citizen were supplying the Al Qaida with unspecified resources, most likely info & money. THEY were the reason Bush elevated the security level to Orange - national news comment & not a personal hunch. For the record, these men lived about 7-8 miles from me so it IS right in my backyard.
Buffalo is a prime location since we have 4 border crossings here as well as waterways & easy access to 3 or 4 major airports. Having a large Muslim community makes it easy to blend in & go about their business unnoticed.
We also have a huge hydro-electric plant here that supplys power to most of the Eastern seaboard. Years ago, a transformer blew here in the Falls & it triggered MASSIVE blackouts that extended down to Wash, D.C. - NYC alone was in total darkness for 23 hours & THAT is a MAJOR crisis for a city of that size. The implications of "taking out" a plant that has such a far reaching service base is huge - it would cripple this part of the country & effectively put us in a state of emergency - Washington would be in darkness unless they have since found a different power supplier.
Fact is, while the MAJORITY of the Arabs & Muslims in our country are good, hard working, peaceful people the terrorists are STILL here among us. Don't think this is the only group operating here - I am sure there are others. Look at the 9/11 murderers - they were fairly spread out - a "don't put all your eggs in 1 basket" type of deal.
BTW - these men trained in Bin Laden's training camps - still think they are "good guys" or that maybe they pose a real threat? It was the MUSLIM community here who turned them in too! I'd prefer to know they were picked up BEFORE somthing happened & not after.

 

As I siad I am not paranoid. I will fly ANYWHERE except for 1 place & that is my home, NYC. It has NOTHING to do with safety either. I cannot bear to fly home & see the NYC skyline the way it looks now nor would I want to fly over Ground Zero, look down & see that devastation. It's for sentimental reasons - feelings of grief for lives lost that I will not fly to NY. I will drive there as soon as it's possible & I'd probably go down to that area but I don' t know if I can go to Ground Zero for now. Maybe someday I will.

 

That is serious. Wow it is hard to believe, but it is believable. I can't believe we have these morons in our country. God forbid I ever run across someone I know to be affliated with a terriost group. I have my guns and plenty of ammo. I may have been in the military in the past, but my service to country will NEVER end.

The truth is, most mainstream Arabs want nothing different than the rest of us:
To be able to live in peace, to raise their kids and watch them grow up, and live and work an honest life, nothing less, nothing more.

I really believe that until the Israel - Palestine conflict is resolved (yeah right), there will be never be peace in the world.

I pray that I see this happen within my lifetime.

I know just how you feel Cowlady. Back in 1993 I was living in Jersey City (directly across the Hudson River from Mahattan) it was there that the first plot to destroy the WTC was hatched. Like you I have not been to ground Zero nor do I care to.

It might interest some of you to know that the Lakawana terrorist group was aprehended on a tip by the Moslem community.

And yes, the radical kooks are everywhere among us. More reason for for all Americans to be more vigilant during these times of high alert.

 

You never know, something this simple really could make a difference. I know you posted it as a joke, but I doubt in these days the FBI would frown upon reporting anything that might be suspicious.


And yes the scumbags are all over. One of the hijackers (Ata I belive) was linked to being in Va Beach area. The largest naval base on the east coast, master jet base in Oceana, not to mention a good part of the Navy special ops community is in the area. No doubt they were researching what they could.

I feel your pain; however I live in South Florida-the center of the universe for embarassing/scary/newsworthy events.

A quick sample: Botched 2000 Presidetial election, Elian Gonzales,9/11 Terrorists lived here,9/11 learned to fly here, Anthrax in American Media Building, botched 2002 elections etc.

My friends and family in other parts of the country think I'm insane for living here. They may be right.

 

it wasnt a joke...i was 100% serious..they do have two cars with the plates i described and keep to themself...dont have much for furnishings(according to my wife who watched them move in)and have a little girl who they dont let outside to play...probably think i'm a little strange here lately...dressing in camoflage and tearing apart these little birds in the drive way and cleaning my shotguns on my porch

 

Thats real bad to hear. I know that they will/ are already going to show up in New Orleans, it is one of the biggest ports in the country/ world. its some scary stuff.

 

Cow Lady it is sure unreal, but at least they got the bastards. It could have happened anywhere in the country, but it allways seams worse when it happens in your back yard.
