Hey guys, I always wanted a 5.4 two wheel drive. Well, I have the truck of my dreams now, EXCEPT shes a 4x4. The fact of the matter is I got a hell of a deal on the truck, and even though shes a 4x4, shes still gorgeous as hell. All black, 4x4 lariat, 5.4, flareside.

Anyways on the topic:

Is there a way of getting rid of the 4x4? I mean is it as simple as removing the t-case and getting a longer drive shaft? I would obviously keep the parts for resale value, but, can it be done in a cheap and efficient manor? Anyone?!

 

Not really man. It'd be cheaper overall to just trade. Plus you won't have to reinstall all your stuff. Personally, I like the looks of a 4x4 better. It's got that more of a "I'm gonna roll right over you" look to it. If all you want is the height of a 4x4 with the 4x2's lighter weight, look at the other post.

What am I missing here?

I had a 4x2 in 1997 and now drive a 4x4 -- and the only thing I can see different is the price of the truck (except in winter).

There's no difference in gas mileage. Probably no difference in ride (aside from what goes along with being jacked up 3 inches). No difference in noise.

 

only advantage the 2wd has over the 4wd is if you w ant to lower it really low. other than that, i would say leave it the way it is mainly because its going to be a lot of work (you will need a 2WD tranny, front suspension, and rear driveshaft). it will really lower the value of your truck too. just my opinion...
