What is a good trade/ occupation???
What is a good trade or occupation to get into these days? Besides Electronics. I'm taking electronics in college and it sucks! I'm thinking of changing my major. Help me decide. TIA.
The best occupation would be one that pays a ton, with a ton of great benefits (perks, kickbacks, ect.) and very little work.
Hmmmm. What job could that be?
You should become a politician!
As long as the rest of us suckers keep giving away our hard earned money to taxes, the position will be a lucrative one! Hey some one has to do it. Right?
There is so many things aout there to choose from, I can see how it would be difficult to choose a major. Just try and find something that you like. I have a job that pays, well, "ok" but damn I sure would like to try something different. It gets harder and harder to change careers.
Good luck!

I don't know where to start. I'm 26. And I have'nt been in school for 8 long years. I went back 2 weeks ago. (college of course.) And it knocked me flat on my a$$. Electronics is hard to do. I'm not whining or anything. It just seems that it's not meant for me. Hey, I like doing mechanical work! Maybe I'll give that a shot. Have you ever seen that preview on tv about marine mechanics? Where they teach you to work on boat motors and stuff? That would be cool huh. There is just to much out there to pick a major right now. Maybe I'll ride this semester out, and see how things go. And in the meantime, I'll be picking out what I want to do. It's a long road, but these shoes are made for walkin' brother! I never thought about politickin'.
Maybe I'll run for mayor next primary.

The most important question you need to ask yourself is "Do you want to work with your hands or do you want to work with your mind?" There are all kinds of jobs that pay good money either way...
To be honest, Heating and Air Conditioning is taking off around here. I don't know where you live, but you should look into it. My friend is making well over 3k a month doing it, and he wasn't in school very long.
I went to a web design trade school for 6 months, and it was the worst waste of money ever. I didn't learn anything I didn't know, all I got was a certificate...which I thought would help. Right now I'm working with computers, but nothing to do with web design. I do that on my own free time for extra money.

I would have to go with HVAC. Everybody does well in that business. People will pay for it when they are broke. It is a tight and secretive business pricewise and not hard to make a fortune doing it. I learned AC from my stepfather when I was a teenager. I never wanted to do it for a living but it comes in handy for my rentals. I save literally thousands of $$ per year doing it myself.
Commercial AC is even better, my stepfather did Class A stuff like department stores, etc. for a commercial company and was making $60-$75K anually in the 80's.
You have to know low voltage wiring, high voltage, plumbing, freon pressures, carpentry, airflow, ductwork, etc. If you can do AC, you can do almost anything. You get to use your mind and your hands equally.
People will pay for that.

Go to the beach work on your tan.
The toolbox for your job will only contain a few brightly colored thongs so it won't be very heavy.
You get to sit around and cruise the net all day, sit around
waiting on people to make mistakes and then bust em for
it, you get to sit around in your underwear, you get to sit
around and enjoy conversations about Ford trucks, and
lastly, you get to sit around and rake in all the money
without any physical exertion. Talk about a dream job!
Any guesses.......

WEBMASTER
trapper, you are Banned and your house will be burnt down this evening.
(that statement was full of lies. I happen to know that the Webmaster doesn't even own any underwear)
How do I know this?
The Webmaster is the ultimate Ford enthusiast and his entire wardrobe consists of official online products. Unfortunately, Cafepress ceased production before he could get any T-shirts but, he was able to get some hats.
I saw him in the grocery line with three stratigically placed hats (one was on his head).

But Raoul, what if he wants to work with his mind????
Are you looking for a trade or a job/career? One thing to decide, is what is more important, money or satisfaction. Making alot of money is always great, but if it is something that you may not be happy doing, then the job is really a job. Ideally, you want a job that you love that pays really well, and few people ever actually acheive that..... a job that pays well, but has no challenge provides little job satisfaction has both highs and lows.
So, to me, it may be a trade off between money and satisfaction.

about 8 years ago i was in your exact position. i fully enjoy mechanical things, i've been a mach. oper, and repairman and loved it.
was talked into taking an electronics field in school by a counselor who was trying to keep the program afloat.
i graduated, got the job and have spent the last few years wishing like he%$ i had swapped my major when i had a chance.
the one good side of this is i now tell my son that i don't care if he chooses not to go to college as long as he gets a job he enjoys.
to answer your question.....you already know the answer, it's what you wish you were doing whenever your doing what you have to do. what are you good at, what do you enjoy.
don't do it for the money, do it for you.

Well, I'm doing fairly well at electronics so far. I've had 3 tests, and my scores were 90,80, and 80. I've got all my homework done and ready to turn in. If I keep it up, I know I'll pass. But the question is you say, " Do I like what I'm doing?" Yes. It's interesting, and very challenging. I always wanted to make something out of myself. Well, here's my chance. If I quit, I'll never live it down. I feel like this is a trial and tribulation period in my life. And I can't quit. The reason I said electronics "sucked" yesterday, is because I had a bad day at school. Electronics can get very technical and frustrating sometimes.
I'm going to try my best at it and see what happens. If it's not meant for me, only time will tell.
