Comfort and logic
It's so comforting to know that airport security has improved
And it's even better to see their logic in defense of being caught out:
And it's even better to see their logic in defense of being caught out:
"That is a violation of federal law that you guys knowingly took those items on an airline."
I saw this today too!
How stupid! They're quicker to point out that the reporters committed a criminal act. Sure, what they did was technically illegal, but they also pointed out that if they could do it then BAD GUYS CAN TOO!!
Personally, I think they should be more concerned that their mickey mouse security system still doesn't work.
So tell me again what all these new security fees I pay at the airport are getting me.

I still chuckel at this - in March I was in Pheonix - going to LV for the Nascar race. - In my carry on I have to take my breathing machine (cant sleep without it) - they pulled me out of line -"for something suspicious" - opened my bag - BUT DID NOT TAKE ANTHING OUT - JUST LOOKED IN THE TOP ???, then made me take off MY SHOES ??? - not running shoes - like - say boat shoes, and did a test and scan on them???
I guess I passed (and the checker passed out) after sniffing my shoes.

It is ashame that the security is the way that it is but, remember this, they are doing more screening and they are catching more items that are moving from common areas to secure areas (ie: beyond security check points). They are doing a better job.
I fly quite a bit with my job. My typical flight is from Louisville to Montana or to Washington State and I will say this. I flew alot pre-9/11 and have flown alot since 9/11. Security IS, UNDOUBTEDLY, better. It's more strict... more 'in your face'.
If nothing else, the hightened sense of security is detering some folks from attempting to bring illegal items on board.
Personally, as far as flying and feeling safe, I do. I don't have a sense that it's 'big brother' watching us. It's a group of people doing their jobs and, in my honest opinion after seeing SEVERAL US airports, doing their job very well.
I really hope that the reporters responsible for bringing those items on board are severely punished. They are citizens just like you and I and, if I'm not mistaken, INTENTIONALLY bringing something on board is punishable with more stringent punishment than that of a 'common joe' accidently bringing his swiss army pocket knife on board and getting caught. I HOPE THEY THROW THE BOOK AT THE DAMN REPORTERS.
Recently, a guy was caught here in Louisville (the first United States Airport to have FEDERAL security) with a gun in his carry on handbag. He is free on bail however is facing a jail term of 7 years. I truely hope the reporters get more.
Just my opinion. I think the security folks are doing all they can with what they have to use. New technologies that are in the works will greatly aide in security at the airports however, it's a fact that if someone really wants to get something on board to cause trouble, they'll find a way to do it. Never underestitmate the stupidity of people in numbers.

I'm not much on auto racing... I get into hydroplanes though. Nothing like a jet-powered boat to get the adrenilne pumping. RP
Race was GREAT - I saw it from the pits. The whole weekend was thru Rubbermaid (97 Kurt Bush) - many drivers autographs - super pics. Unfortunatley Kurts car developed motor probs & he "ran up the track"

Yeah, races from the pits are cool... Saw the Busch Race at Indianapolis Raceway Park in Aug... courtesy of Scott Riggs... he lead 98 laps.... then cut a tire on a yellow with 14 to go... sucked...... pretty cool to sit on the inside wall and watch the race.....!
