Just want to say Thanks!
I just want to say Thanks to all the people that have served our Country in the armed forces or public agencies. We set aside one day a year to comemorate their service ane the other 364 days most take advantage of the freedom and security these people give us. Call it sappy or what have ya but at least I can Thank my brothers and sisters here.
I agree!
I don't think your post is "sappy" at all! I admire you for posting this & everything you said is true!
I always respected our military & police, fire & EMS but never really took the time to tell them. Now, after 9/11, I never let that chance to say thanks go by. When you think about it, these brave men & women are at a greater risk in their everyday duties than we think. Thank God days like 9/11 are NOT a ommon occurence but normal daily duties are a HUGE risk to them.
I have had active military tear up when I go out of my way to thank them - same with police & fire & I am happy to let them know how proud & thankful I am for their selfless service.
God Bless all those who work tirelessly to protect us! Thank you for posting this!

Wantmorespeed, I respect your feelings also.
I spent 4 1/2 years in the service from 69 to 73 1/2..
I am a multiply tour Viet Nam veteran. (4 to be exact)
THANK YOU... I grew up a "flag waver", in that I have
"always" loved and respected our country and could
hardly wait until I could serve her.
There is one thing that bothers me though. I realize
that some people need a wake up call to get on track,
but have you noticed how many people now fly the flag,
have patriotic bumper stickers, and etc. and etc., all since
9/11? My only question is, where the hell were they all
prior to 9/11?????????
My only desire is that all those who now show their patriotic
side continue to do so from here on out.
Oh yes, I move to Clackmas,Oregon upon my discharge from
the service and worked for the State Highway bridge repair
department. I spent several months in the Jewel and Mist area
repairing their bridges. Even got to your hidden paradise known
as Scappoose a time or two. I envy you for where you live.
Oregon is one of the most beautiful places on earth as fas as I
am concernec. The 7 years I spent there before returning home to
Ohio are, and will be remembered for the remainder of my life.
It is my desire to possibly vacation out there in the next several
years with my wife and daughters. They would dearly enjoy seeing the area that I am forever talking about.
Your welcome, and thank you.
Marc

Glad to have served myself. Many forget the sacrafices that others have made and take our freedoms for granted. You'll never find me in that group.
Some quotes from one of my favorite Marine Corps sites....
It's easy to think of them as movie lines, but they all took place.
Come on, you sons of bitches-do you want to live forever?"
(Attributed to Gunnery Sergeant Daniel Daly, USMC, Belleau Wood, June 1918.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold."
(First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, USMC, 96th Co., Soissons, 19 July 1918.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Casualties many; Percentage of dead not known; Combat efficiency; we are winning."
(Colonel David M. Shoup, USMC, Tarawa, 21 November 1943.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The raising of that flag on Suribachi means a Marine Corps for the next 500 years."
(James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy, 23 February 1945.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Among the men who fought on Iwo Jima, uncommon valor was a common virtue."
(Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, USN, 16 March 1945.)

I have always loved serving my community as a volunteer firefighter EMT Lieutenant here in Scappoose for the last 7 years and now working as a dispatcher for Lifeflight in Portland gives me a certain pride knowing that what I do helps others. It takes thousands of people all over the world to keep what we have here safe and will always show my appreciation here and everywhere else. If anyone ever should come my way here in Scappoose please feel free to contact me. Thanks again. Brian
You're welcome! Spent 22 years in the Air Force, all around the world including 8 1/2 months sleeping on a cot during Desert Storm. I'm proud of what I did, had some of the best times, met some of the best people, wouldn't trade it for the world, and would suit up again, if called to.

OK funny man Raoul... what I meant was "including 8 1/2 months serving to defend your freedom during which I slept on a cot, in a tent, eating crap food, after working 12 hours in 110 degree temperatures, missing every holiday except for Memorial Day!". Better?

You see, I was actually in jail for part of that time but, I don't hold that against you. You were doing the best you could.

You are such an enigma but I am sticking to my theory that you are, in fact, John Ashcroft.

I've seen this Ashcroft on the TV and he's a white guy and besides that, I've never even been to South America.
I'm sure there are some enigmas on the site and they have every right to be proud of their culture. I'm just saying I can't claim to be one although there's nothing wrong with that.
Dias3,
I was just jerking your chain. If you was a kid I'd have left you alone but, after 22 years I thought you could handle some ribbing.
Come on, I'm a vet.
I tried to talk my brother into going into the military but, he joined the Air Force instead.

There were some other things that bothered me but, I never asked like,
how come everybody has an ETS date and mine was 3 to 5 years?
why does my uniform have the most stripes and I'm still not a sergeant?
how come everybody has a gun except me?
