Been Fishing lately?

I just wondered if anyone here has been fishing this summer. I've got a fishing trip lined up this Saturday with one of my friends at Fern Lake in KY. He say's the smallmouth are tearing spinnerbaits up! And he fishes at night so it'll be cool. I can't wait! If you have any fishing stories, I want to hear about it! True or not.

Peacemaker,

Don't you live in TN? I may have you confused with someone else.

Anyway, I fish all the time on the Caney Fork River. If you like to wade for trout, mainly Rainbow, I'd be glad to meet you on the water and put you on some fish. Nothing tastes better than a grilled Rainbow fresh caught.

Good luck on the smallies. They are starting to hit some around the Nashville lakes. Percy Priest and a little on Old Hickory. I haven't been on the lake this summer, would love to go this fall, but I sold my boat. No worries, I'll pick up another one before long.

Let me know if you'd like to meet at the river. If you are in TN where I go is around 60 miles East of Nashville. Later, Rich.

Talking You don't want to hear mine.

All my stories involve profanity, beer, and me falling into the
pond. Followed by dinner at Burger King. Sorry!

hikerrich, I do live in TN. But only I'm only 15 minutes away from KY. Thanks for the invite, but I have no Idea where the Caney Fork River is??? I have heard of it though. Maybe you could come to Harrogate, TN and I could escort you on over to Fern Lake to catch some smallies. Let me know if you want to go.

In a word-No...I haven't been fishing since summer has arrived..I love trout fishing and the warm water sure brings the trout fishing to a halt, they just don't seem to active in this warm weather.

I would guess that trout bite better in early Spring and late Fall. I've never been trout fishing though, so I could'nt tell you without guessing. Is it hard to trout fish? I've seen it done on tv. But I've never tried it. Looks like it would be difficult.

I've only been on a few wading trips on the rivers in the area in the last few weeks. I'll be happy when it cools down a little so I can take the boat back out.

trout fishing hard ?

It can be if you are into flyfishing.Me, forget the flyfishing and lets have some fun.Just cast yur bait out their (salmon eggs, nightcrawlers, sand shrimp, powerbait, etc....) prop your pole up and crack open a beer.Around here their is excellent fishing for rainbow trout, german brown trout, and eastern brook trout. These all can be fished for in the high mountain lakes and rivers.Smallmouth bass can also be had in one of local rivers.

Your right about the beer lighningcrashz. You can't go fishing without a case of Budwiser LOL! Especially if there is'nt anything biting. I get paranoid sitting there staring at my line for an hour waiting for a bite. So I have to have a beer. It just makes me calm...right...down.

sizes

The eastern brook trout usually are no bigger than 2lbs.Consider yourself lucky if you catch one that big, the average size around here is 8-12inches.The german browns get big........really big.How would you like to hook into a 20 plus pound fish? It happens here(100 miles to these two very special lakes) every spring. The last one I hooked, I never landed.I saw him right after I set the hook and his head was roughly the size if an american football.Needless to say, he broke my line. The rainbow trout can get upwards of 10lbs but it doesn't happen very often.Average size (at least where I fish) is 8-24 inches. If you catch a rainbow trout in a river,in Oregon, that is over 16 inches long, it is considered a Stealhead (pretty much a sea run Rainbow) and you must have a tag for it or release it unharmed.

Peacemaker, I actually enjoy watching my line move ever so slightly with the waves. You really need to play close attention to how it is moving ......One time, I was sippin my beer watching my line move with the waves, when it occured to me that hey its not moving with the waves. The tip of my pole was just barely moving (a salamader biting the worm would make the tip move more) opposit of the wave action. After a couple minutes of discussion about what to do about this little minnow messin with my bait, I picked up my pole and set the hook hard.Much to my surpise (and the guys I was fishing with) a 30" german brown came bustin up out of the water with my hook in his mouth. If I wasn't pay so close of attention to my line, I would have never caught this fish
