Or was that something different? I didn't open it, only saw it in my preview pane deleted it and emptied my recycle bin, but I would assume that unless it is somebody I know, and I don't give this address to anybody I don't, the only way to get it is by tracing the server???

If your preview pane sees a message, I think (not sure) that you can become infected with certain viruses. Obviously, if there's an attachment, then you'd have to open it, but, at work when there's a rampant net virus warning, we are told to turn off our preview capabilities.
You can download a Klez fix free from the Norton.com site. Some signs I have seen of the virus is wierd displays in Internet Explorer. Like only part of a website shows. Klez is a big e-mail spoofer. It just pick names out of an address book of an infected computer and spoofs the name to send the infected file to someone. I work in an IT dept and monitor e-mails of about 2500 users and we get about 300 alerts a day from our virus scanner. 95% are the Klez virus. It's been going on for about 3 months everyday. We strip all .scr, .exe, .pif, .bat, and so on. Be careful what you open.
