Child seats
Child seats
I just bought a 98 F150 supercab and was wondering if a baby seat is OK in the rear seat. I notice that I have the passenger airbag cutoff switch and someone told me that if the seat was OK back there I wouldn't have that switch. Gonna have kids soon and don't want to give them brain damage too early. Any help is appreciated.
I have my kid seat in the back and it is fine.I just slide the front passenger seat up to give him more leg room.I believe the front seat is ok too if you have the airbag off.Thats the only place for the seats to go for people who dont have an ext cab.
The fact that you have a shutoff switch doesn't mean that you can't (or shouldn't) use a child seat in the back seat. Whoever told you that is misinformed. The rear seat is the preferred location, and all forward facing seats should go there. However some rear-facing child seats won't fit in the rear of a supercab, thus the passenger airbag shutoff switch.
Hello (raising hand) Firefighter/Extrication Specialist/ "EMT retired" 7 plus years and counting, as i may add my .02 on this subject.......and also concerned parent of a 6 month old baby girl (which is My world) i have found that the back seat is the Best and Safest place for an infant/child to be in ANY vehicle....i have witnessed and performed many extrications of vehicles with children......and BY far the child in the middle back seat faired better than a child in a side passenger seat.....the side impact intrusion of one vehicle to another is outstanding..........i have seen many passanger seats pushed over even onto the driver seat..........of course all Depending on SPEED...now with a child/infant in the Middle rear seat they have a better survival chance than that of one sitting in the front passenger seat...and also with the Air bag debate......IF you Must place the child/infant in the front seat PLEASE turn the airbag OFF.......and have the child/infant facing REAR-WARD.......their lil necks cannot sustain a frontal impact, whiplash is not a factor for the infants/children.....death by seperation of the vertabrae is...AND PLEASE PLEASE, if EVER an accident was to happen to anyone involving a child/infant no matter what.......LEAVE THEM IN THE CARSEAT, do not remove them..........UNLESS they are not breathing........ that is the only time...sorry to get so involved in this subject but i feel strongly about children/infant safety...
Just another "me too" post. We alternate between the front and back seat for our five-month old (rear facing) with little problem. The passenger seat will not go all the way back with the seat directly behind it, however.
