Mercury Maurader

Well, it's here. The 2003 Mercury Maurader. I know you guys were talking about it before... but it's now on the lot. Has anyone driven it? We're gonna take it out next Saturday for a spin. It looks like a Grand Marquis, with dualies and 18" tires. Is it just me, or do I need to become a CIA Agent to drive one of these things?

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather spend $35K on a (slightly) used Cadillac Seville or Eldorado with the Northstar and all the bells and whistles, than on a new Maurader with only one option available. (6 disc CD changer)

They say that if there's enough demand for this car, then they'll produce a convertible version next year (or whenever).

Your thoughts?

Saw one at the local dealership and here are my thoughts:

It is a sharp looking vehicle, but seems like they could have done more to the engine for the price. (Oh, I dunno...a super charger maybe..?) I liked the interior - nice leather, dash layout, etc. I think it has the potential to be a real sleeper (with a few mods) if you are into that. All in all, a nice ride, if a little pricey. However, I don't think I would go the Caddy route as an option - maybe a Lincoln LS though.

Thanks for your reply. I used to have a 96 Seville STS (check out my link and you can see why I don't have it anymore). I love Caddys. Always have, always will. I love their look, better than the LS.

One truck in the family is enough... Hmmm, but now that you say that, I may just have to start thinking about the HD....

Its a SuperCREW, and I would NEVER sell it! It's our family vehicle (we have four kids).

Ford keeps trying to give their Mercury division new and different vehicles to boost their sagging sales.
The problem is, they seem to always come up a little short.
I like the looks of the new Merc, but 302 HP and 318 lbs. of torque is not enough for a 4200 pound vehicle that is supposed to be their "Performance Leader".
Come on, Ford, it's time to start putting some real horsepower in your performance cars. Kinda like you did with the Mustang (finally) and the Lightning!

Just my .02.

my thoughts exactly. boost those ratings to 350hp and 380lbs of tq, then youve got yourself a performance car.

Jenn just wait until caddy puts that great northstar in a rear wheel drive car!

i like the looks of the crown vic sport more than the merc. add a super charger and WOW!!

the merc was purposely held down in the HP #'s cause merc still caters to an older customer. (Read automobile mag check out the new saleen supercar 5.4 with 500hp n/a!!!)

why don't they put a 5.4 in one of these cars!

peace-

HCMQ -

My question EXACTLY!!! Why didn't they drop a 5.4 in it? the dude at the car dealership kept telling me and my husband "Yeah... they put in a Cobra engine." He told us that, like, 5 times... as if to impress us. Personally, I liked the 2000 Town Car sitting right next to it... and it was $10k less!

That's where we also saw the Lincoln Blackwood... I posted another thread with the link.
