Red face Lightnings are not F150`s

Was at the gas station filling up with gas and a guy pulled in with a 01 or 02(new lights, rims) red lightning on the other side of the pumps. We talked a little and he mentioned he liked my chrome cover on my antenna base. I told him I got it online and it will fit all current models of the F150. He then proceeded to tell me that Lightnings are not F150 models but a special vehicle. He claimed all the parts between a Lightning and a F150 were totally different and couldn`t be swapped at all. I tried to explain to him the trucks were the same but there were numerous suspension, driveline and engine parts that were different. He claimed I was dead wrong and needed to get my information straight before talking about what I dont know. Claimed I was degrading Lightning owners and the trucks name by saying this.I just laughed and told him to look at his owners manual , maintenance schedules and other areas of information and he would see F150 on there somewhere.

When I was pulling out I noticed he opened the passenger door and I guess he was looking at his owners manual.
I realize that they are diffrent trucks but this guy was taking the Lightning supreme attitude a little far. I`m sure glad my buddies that do own Lightnings are not like this!!

Sorry guys jusy had to tell this and vent a little

THIS IS NOT A LIGHTNING BETTER THAN F150 thread. I have no problems with any owners of any model. I think all the trucks are special for who ever owns them. Thought I better clarify that before it turns that way

You should have told him the HD's use the same SVT suspension and the 02's have the same blower.

You're correct but I didn't want to mention it because the pulley's are different.

Hey, I read on a Revell '99 Lightning model kit that the Lightning has a tuned up 4.6L V8 that cranks out over 300 ponies. I nearly died. Why am I telling you this? Just because Revell made a model that looks like a Lightning, it doesn't mean they know what the heck they're talking about. Likewise, just because this idiot owned a Lightning -- and a bad attitude, it seems -- it doesn't mean he knows diddly about them. Givin' the Lightnin' guys a bad rep and bringin' us down, man!!!

People who own cars for status symbols.....

bug me.

The Lightning is very simply a F150. That is part of it's charm. It is the baddest F150/truck on the planet but still a F150. That was what made me smile when I had mine and would blow the doors off an unsuspecting Vette. I would chuckle to myself and think, you just got beat by a F150.

If you are buying cars for status symbols you are missing out on so much. Ferrari's make great status symbols but take the time to listen to that sound. Who cares if there is something faster there is not much that sounds that good.

Mint muscle cars are the same way. Who cars if you have an all original hemichevisvettestang if all you have it for is to say hey look what I got. Take it out feel the torque, the history etc.

Anyway I digress, enjoy the drive.

Chris

Knowledgeable enthusiasts are the exception not the rule.
The great unwashed are generally uninformed.
They know no more than their salesman has told them.

Makes me wonder if this same guy would try to convince his insurance company that his rates should be lower because he drives an F150, not a high-performance, limited edition sport truck...

Nonsequitur,
I didn`t even think to tell him that, I was too busy trying to remember on what documents for his truck had F150 stamped on it. I actually didn`t remember the back had it on, could only remember the flashy "Lightning" on the side and "SVT" on the back. I didnt realize they had a F150 on there too.

Told my buddy at work about it (02 L owner) and he just laughed. Seems he has run into this guy before and described him to a T.

Is the guy too good for an F150?
It is a "true" limited edition (actual) sport truck. Still an F150 though.

My STX is better than a regular F150! I think it's because of the decals. (actually not because I removed them!)

I really like the Lightning, and will own one someday soon (next gen I hope). I like it because it's an F150!

Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

Lightnings aren't F-150's!!! F-150's have sound deadening under the carpet I did have some guy swear up and down his Nascar F-150 was different in several ways from my truck(other than the ext. cab that is) He claimed that every single part on it was licensed by Nascar, my first interior chuckle began. Then he proceeded to show me the area where the bed and cab meet, again telling me it was different from the F-150(improved aerodynamics). I started to block him out at that point, fearing I would laugh in his face. One of the last explanations I endured was the "special" part that went inline on the intake, and caused the truck to be much faster. (You guessed it, Poweraid TB Spacer)
At that point he started to try and sell me this incredible wax that did nothing, and I bid him goodbye. The irony was that his truck wasn't even all that clean I do run into people like this every once in a while, I tend to ignore them,,,,,98

If I could afford a Lightning, or didn't need the extra space of the ext. cab?? It would come home from the dealer, and promptly get all the outward visual cues removed, and replaced with standard parts. The look on the face of the unsuspecting challengers would be worth it all

I have owned my F150 01 XLT Sport, silver, flareside, 17" 10 spoke wheels, for about a year now. During that time approx. 10 - 15 times, usally at the gas station, I have had someone come up to me and say "I love those F150 Lightings" my reply is always "me too, wish I could afford one myself". They look at me kind of funny and ask "that's not a Lighting?" I say no that with the exception on the front bumper cover and the side flares (or what ever you call it) and the 19" wheels the Lightings have it is the same body style.

Now, my question to you people is, what is a Cobra? I guess it can't be a Mustang
