about to get a new truck

Hey all,

I currently have a 94 F150 with the inline 6 and an automatic transmission. I am looking to trade trucks for a 2003 but I am somewhat undecided in what to get. The truck will be used to pull three diffrent trailers. A car carrier to the local drag strip, small bass boat, and a horse trailer.

I don't get them out very often but I do need a truck that I know can handle the load that will be put upon the truck, especialy by the car carrier. I also drive about a 50 mile round trip every day, 6 days a week to and from work so I will be racking up some miles.

I am going to get a regualr cab styleside(I don't need anything more). I just can't decide weather to get the 4.6 5 speed or a 5.4 auto. I have even been concidering trying to get a lightning but I have no real need for a truck that powerful.

I don't really know anything about these new modular engines, i'm a fan of the old school engines. SO can anyone tell me the pros and cons of both drive trains?

Thanks in advance
Andrew

DOOMSDAY,

These numbers are Regular cab, 4x2 and 3.55 axle:

4.6L manual, towing = 3500 lb
4.6L auto, towing = 7200 lb
5.4L auto, towing = 8300 lb

If you have a horse trailer and tow a car, I would pass on the manual tranny.
