Anyone ever had hernia surgery?

I have developed a inguinal hernia from my job as a ford technician. I am not the type of person that can deal with doctors, needles, hospitals, etc. very well. I have never been very sick or ever had an injury that required medical attention until now. I went to the doctor this morning and i'm going in tuesday morning for the day surgery. I am scared to death and almost passed out when they drew blood today. Just wondering if anyone else had been through this and what i should expect.

I feel for you man but don't sweat it. I had two done in the last ten years. I, like you, had not spent any time in hospital or had much time off for sickness before this. Being a construction electrician mine were work related also. They will give you an IV. This feels wierd (cool sensation in your hand) but doesn't hurt. Both of my operations were day surgery. I was a little nauseated after the first one (while in the recovery room) but that was it. The second one I didn't even feel sick afterward (they used a different type of anesthetic). Don't try to go back to work or lift to much until you've given yourself time to heal properly (the doctors know best). The scars take awhile to fade but they eventually do. Take care and I hope everything goes well for ya.

Ouch!, well i made it through the operation yesterday, came home and slept most of the afternoon. I woke up last night in some pretty bad pain, so i started taking my percocet. Today i've been able to move around some, and brought the laptop to the couch. Now im worried because the doctor told me that he sewed me up with staples instead of stitches. I havent looked at the incision yet, because im scared of what it looks like, lol. Anyone ever had staples, and whats it like to have them removed?

Man I feel for you. I had the surgery March of last year. I went through the worst pain I have ever felt. The first week was awful. There was also other complications because of the medication.
I coughed once, and only once in the first couple weeks. It hurt to laugh so I couldn't watch my favorite TV shows. It hurt to get up out of bed or a chair.
Actually now that I think of it, I had orderd my Superchip while I was out of work. The day it was supposed to arive I kept looking out the windoe for the UPS truck. All day I waited in anticipation. It was nice to be excited about something when everything else seemed so *****y. Well I fell asleep around 4 in the afternoon, no Superchip. Then I was woken up by the doorbell. My Superchip had arrived. I bolted up out of bed and............ WOW that friggen HURTS!!!!, the Superchip is here I need to sighn the slip........ WOW damn that HURTS! I hobbled across our long appartement, down the stairs, in excrutiation pain, and when I opened the door the UPS truck was driving away. I guess I didn't need to sighn the slip after all. It was another week befor I was able to install the chip.

I had a pretty bad time for a couple weeks. I hope you don't have so much pain. My doctor said the thin people feel more pain and I'm pretty thin.
Oh, and the bruising! Oh man! Things look real different after they cut you open!

Best of luck on a quick recovery! Take it easy for a few months at least! It's been more than a year for me and it's still sore from time to time. Not nearly as bad as the hernia was though.

I'm very thin! 5'10" and 135lbs.

Didnt i meet you at the F150 online rally at VMP last year? I think you came with a STX truck? I was the skinny guy with a 01 White lightning that day.

Im feelin better in some ways and worse in others today. Its been 48 hours since the operation and it seems like my insides ache a little less, but my skin down there is starting to sting. ( i think it was numb for like 24 hours afterwards).

Yes that was me in the red STX. I was so nerved up at VMP that it's hard to picture the people I met. I'll be back this year. I've got a couple new mods so I hope I can improve the time I got there last year. You going to be able to make it this year? You should be in good shape for the rally.

Really, take it easy. If you have someone there to help you out that makes a big difference.
You might have a better time than I did. I let a couple years go by before I went in for surgery. I was back to work in three weeks. I should have taken another week or two.

In the three weeks I was out of work I spent a majority of my time here, on F150 Online. I caught the mod bug and now I'm going broke trying to keep up.

Recovery isn't much fun. Like you I'd never been to the hospital for more than a few stiches. It can be tough but in a couple of weeks it's possible to get around and do stuff. Nothing too strenuious, but fun stuff. I was driving around after a week. I didn't go too far from home, just had to get out of the house for a while.
Writing about it I can remember like it was yesterday. The whole ordeal is deffinitley a "memorable" experiance. It's hard to forget.
I sincerely wish you the best. I do know what it's like. It would be cool to see you at the rally!
