Question Long Term Ford

Just wondering if anyone was planning to keep their truck as long as me?
(and to get a thread by SilverStud off page one, hint, hint)

Purchased in March 99. mileage about 16,500 per year.
I am retiring in 2010 and would like to purchase a legitimate tow vehicle at that time.

So, my goal for this truck is 11 years and 181,500 miles.

Currently at 54,000 and 3 yrs 3 mos.

Anyone have similiar plans?

I know my wife told me that I'd have to keep this truck until it died and my youngest is out of college. Let's see, she's 10 now, so 11 or so more years..... Truck is now 21/2 years old and 46,000 miles

My old 91 Chevy C1500 had 185,000 miles on it when I gave it to my nephew in March (still running good). It had no major engine work and I think that he will get well over 200,000 miles on it. I will be very disappointed if I don't break 200,000 on my 02 Screw.

I want to get 12 years out of it............Hell the way things are going when I buy another one a 1/2 ton 4x2 will cost $50,000.
Yuppy infestation of the pickup truck market is rising prices so high the people that really need them have to finance them for 10 years.

Thumbs up

With any luck I'll be that old coot with the shiny truck driving down the Ave. Only 22,000 miles in 5 years with most of them being to Home Repo & back. I hope to own the driveway Queen for a long. long time.

I bought my honda new in 87 , 280,000 miles and still going . Now I drive the honda to & from work 70miles RT , so I think the truck should last at least twice that long ... unless I just gotta have the new 04 redesign ... but then again I could give the honda to GOODWILL and take a tax deduction , use it for a downpayment on the 04 and commute in the 01 Screw !

Hey fellas,

I'm in the longest owner club, too. I plan on driving my 99 for many years. I'm on 3 1/2 years with 48,000. My last truck , a Dodge, lasted 14 years and had over 300,000 on the ticker. It wouldn't pull your hat off your head, but it ran. LOL! I hope my Ford runs twice that long. Later, Rich.

So far i'm at 10 years and almost 150K miles. Has some rust but runs like new. No plans to get rid of her anytime in the next 10 years.

One of my co-workers was commenting to me the other day how his early 90's Aerostar was at 190k. He was impressed to see that it was going to make it over 200,000... until he got rear-ended on the highway yesterday! Rest in pieces, brave little van! (No one was injured, btw, thank goodness.)

I am infamous for driving a $250 car for 6 years, and a $700 car for 8 years. I expect to get at least 20 years out of my 2002 Supercrew. LOL

I think I will want an '04. I'll have to see if I can save enough for a down payment. I think the '98 will stick around for some time. I don't plan on getting any 200,000 on it but in time I would like to see high 9's low 10's. I think the 4.6 will have to be replace with something more like 517ci. The '04 will be the tow truck.
And when I wake up from that wonderful dream.............
I've got some money and elbow grease invested in this truck, I'd like to have it for a long time.

Don't know how long I'll hold onto my current '97, frankly it's lookin' like a short-term thing, but my previous '87 was the best truck I ever owned.
Bought her wholesale in '89, drove it for 13 yrs including 1 yr of "overlap" with the '97.

No major problems along the way, and really, very few small ones. Routine maintenance mostly. But I don't run very many miles, under 5K annual.

Finally let it go a few months ago - at retail, two grand less than I originally paid!!
Now THAT'S a truck that held it's value!!

Regarding mileage - we have 3 '97's at work that do get a LOT of miles. Most notable is a supercab XLT longbed in delivery service. We just blew the V6 finally - at 240K miles!!
The other two are 4.6 V8's with about 150K each, no major engine work on either.
All three trucks have had transmissions, though.
