I also have a some crawdads living in the yard. It's alot easier to go to the store and buy them live. 50lbs in a sack. Boil em with some Tony's creole season, crab boil, corn, and potatoes. Ice down some beer and you gotta party.

Pinch the tail and suck the head.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for all the comments and help, but can anyone tell me how do crawfish get into a developed subdivision and make holes in the yard?

I asked this question to a coworker and he said he thinks they may flow in the aquafirs under ground and dig up into the yard Huh???...Is that possible?

I just can't figure out how the hell the little critters got on my land to start with. Maybe it's like little fish in ditches, they come in with the rain. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait for some more comments or wait for the SC Aquaculter research department to contact me since I've left two messages and three emails so far with no reply.

Later,
~DM~

dude.. they were probably already there.
they tunnel around quite a bit when the ground is wet.. after a good rain, we have several dozen holes pop up in the back yard.
they dont really hurt anything..

i ran over one the other day with the lawnmower.. yee-hah! *splat*

Duuuuude, if those damn creepy critters don't start paying rent by this weekend, they aren't going to have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.

I'm going to poison their asses with a pesticide which has .0004 PPM of Permethrin and Voila, bye-bye crawfish. Then, I'm going to seal up all those damn holes with dirt or something so that new ones have no haven.

I got the pesticide info from our local auqaculterist out of Georgetown, SC. The guy spends most of his time helping farmers harvest crawfish and he knows exactly how to get rid of them too.

We get a lot of them here just south of Chicago (it's surprisingly swampy here). I never tried it but my gandma says durring the depresion they would tie a small strip of liver to a string and lower it down the hole. When you pull it up the crayfish will be holding on for dear life. Get a couple of kids to do this all day and you can have a good meal. Cajuns got nuthin on us.

I think the eggs can be transferred on the feet of birds as well. I don't know if they can make it through the digestive tract but I'm pretty sure they can cling to their feet. That's how fish end up in newly created ponds without being stocked.

We took 200acres out of sugar cane and made it into crawfish ponds two years ago b/c of the clay content and lack of nutrients. I never thought I could get tired of eating crawfish, but I was wrong. I think I prefer shrimp now...
