Anyone have any experience with the PT Cruiser?

My wife wants to trade in the Windstar and get a new PT cruiser.
Anyone know if these vehicles are reliable?

She's mad about the PT cruiser, and what do I know about Chrysler?

I just want to make sure these things arnt the lemon of the new age before spending 30k for one.

Many thanks
Habibi

The PT Cruiser is overall a nice vechicle. I would not consider it a lemon in any means. I think the novelty of owning one is dying down. I wanted to get one, but my wife said no. She said it looks like a mini-hearse. Now every time I see one "I see dead people." Also, the price is now where near 30K (ah, didn't think of the Canadian dollar). Go for it if you and your wife like it. If I had a choice between a Windstar and a PT Cruiser, I'll take a PT.

My buddy just bought a "Woody" version. He really liked it at first but now is complaining that it is slloooowwww. It is pretty slow. If you want one, a trubo version will be available in 2003. The PT Cruiser GT. I would strongly recommend waiting. Otherwise his is built perfect and has had no problems. A nice little car and very roomy. He only paid $21K for a fully loaded Limited with moonroof.

Thanks fellas,

She's not a speed demon or anything, she just likes the looks of it.
I just wanted to make sure it's not plagued with problems before going out to get one.
The turbo sounds like a fun option!

It's a Neon

The PT Cruiser is based on the Neon chassis , engine, and components. I think the styling is nice, but, after owning a 1996 Neon and a 1993 Sundance I would not consider a Chyrysler product. These were my wife and I first cars and we thought it was normal to be in the shop monthly. After buying a 2000 Ford with 0 problems I learned that it was not normal. This is just personal experience.

My wife's friend at work had one. Liked it for a while, she ordered it right after they came out. After a while she hated it. Too small, VERY underpowered. Ended up trading it in on a Mustang 'vert.
IMO, it's a Chrysler, so I wouldn't ever own one.

My opinion on Chrysler....
My wife drives a 98 T&C LXi. Bought it new in late 97. First Chrysler I've owned. It gets used hauling kids around to soccer, school, etc, etc. - what everyone buys a minivan for....
She drives the ***** out of it - the stop and go, short trips, etc. Almost 5 years and 70,000 miles with very little issues. Yes, I get all the maintenance done at the required intervals. It has held up great despite the hard use. I'm very impressed - women and kids are he11 on vehicles.

I still feel (most of the time) a vehicle is a product of how you treat it. I've got friends who don't maintain their toyotas and have all kinds of problems.

we took one out for a test drive and the only thing i would say is it's a very harsh ride for a car.
as said before if it's a choice between the windstar and the pt.... i'd take the pt.
