Question Painting the front skid plate

I'm thinking about taking off the front skid plate on my rig and painting it a dark silver. Has anyone ever done this? My trucks black, so i think it won't look too bad. Do you think i should powder coat it to keep it from scratching? I was just going to use spray paint (rustoleum or something), but i'm afraid that that will scratch real easy. What does everyone think?

I took mine off, sandblasted it (was rusty) and painted it with Ford dark blue engine enamel (made by Duplicolor). It does get chipped after awhile but you can't see it unless your 6 inches away. Silver might show the chips more though. I just crawl under there and respray it every 6 months or so to keep the rust from coming back.

Have you considered getting it rhino lined? I know a kid that did that to his 4 wheeler, looks great.

powder coat them

If you can afford it, get them powder coated. There is a huge array of colors available (even metallic flake). It will last a whole lot longer than the paint will.I am going to have all my skid plate powder coated metalic gold to match my truck ( I already have them off but a certain drivers ignorance has put my truck in the body shop with me paying the deductable (uninsured driver). The only good part is th loser is in jail for hit and run......

I'm on an extremely tight budget right now, so I'm thinking powder coating will be too much. Unless it's something i can do myself? I'll try to find some sort of clear scratch/rust protectant to put over it once i'm done to minimize damage to the paint.

oh

I have no idea what it would cost a guy to have them done up at a powdercaoting shop.I have a friend who does this on the side as a supplemental income. He is only charging me $40 and a case of beer to do all the skid plates.
