One More thing

Copy the owner of the shop in question with all of the correspondence you are sending out to everyone. It would be good for him to know that everyone else is finding out what a
$h!t he is.

Habibi,

Call A.R.E. Inc @ 330-830-7800 and ask for customer service. Give them the serial number of your cap and they will tell you what vehicle it is made for. If it is made for a Ford it might not be the correct model. According to them the space between the cap nad the cab is not allways even. If this is the case the installer ir required to know this and he should have checked for proper clearance anyways. You should ask for a complete refund and repairs and your expences.

Good luck.

Jean Marc Chartier

PS. Should have bought a Leer.

Update

The latest news:

The dealer who installed the cap just phoned me and threatened to take me to court for slandering his good name.
He stated he had witnesses who would testify in court that I was "bad mouthing" his company, and that he now had grounds for a lawsuit.

I asked him if he knew the difference between "slander" and "truth", and he said I was not allowed to say anything until it was proven in court.

Now for the good news:

A few of you were suggesting that the cap was not made for my truck, after reading Jean Marc's post, I telephoned A.R.E. and talked to a customer service rep.

They checked the serial number of the cap, and guess what?
The cap they sold me is for Ford F-150, 97 - current regular cab, 6 and a half foot box.

That's right, "regular cab", mine is an extendede cab.
I asked the agent if this cap would fit on my truck, and he said "no"

You can put a cap for an extended cab on a regular cab, but not the other way around.

Apparently, the angle of the cap is not correct for my truck, and this is the problem in a nut shell.
They are sending me a letter stating the above facts.

So in conclusion:

Anything by me that may have been taken as "slander" in now in all actuallity "fact"
hehehe, Now I have them by the "short & curlies"

Damn this feels good.

Thanks to everyone, I would have never known this important fact if it wasnt for the good people of this site.

By the way, he was accusing me of removing the cap earlier, and then re-installing it myself, and saying thats why the damage was caused because I didnt install it properly,

Ill kepp y'all posted.

Thanks again
Habibi

Thumbs up Go get him Habibi!!!

You know it's really amazing to me that people like that manage to stay open for business.

If they would just realize that all people expect from them is fairness and a little customer service anf they would have loyal customers and tons of references.

Good luck and keep us posted.

hey I was thinkin about getting one of those but i dont think it would look to great on my truck.https://www.f150online.com/galleries...TOKEN=82187532

Anyway I was lookin at the tonneau covers and I know that if they did that to my truck id really be pissed off. I would try to the the worst damage to them I can. Im with the other guy who had suggested setting up camp one weekend in front of their store with some signs. Maybe they will get tired of you being out there and driving away customers. They may even say heck with it and take care of their problem. Im with you. Good Luck.

Keep me updated,
FX4Guy

The saga is complete.

Yesterday, the owner of the shop who sold & installed my A.R.E. cap gave me a full refund of the cap, and promised to replace the brake light lense with a new one, and have a local detailer "buff" out the marks around the edge of the sliding rear window.

It's not exactly what I wanted, but under the circumstances, it will do.
At least I don't have to wait an eternity for a refund while this gets dragged out in court.
Also, he was kind enough to advise me that even though I will prob win my case, nothing is guaranteed that I would collect my money. I know exactly what he was trying to tell me (nudge nudge, wink wink)

I am disapointed in A.R.E.; I wrote them a detailed letter over 1 week ago, requesting them to send me a letter stating the cap I owned was not the proper cap for my truck, as well as all the problems I was having with one of their dealers.
I emailed them 3x, telephoned them, and they still did not reply.
I would have been content receiving at least an acknowledgement letter telling me they are looking into it, and will get back to me later.

At least I got my money back, and my truck will be back to "almost" mint condition.

I think I will stay away from caps for a long while.
I ordered a Pace Edwards roll top today from the same dealer who sold me my soft tonneau.
He is taking back the tonneau, and applying all the money towards the roll top.

I'm glad it's over.

Great Job

Congrats on the outcome. It's cool that the guy came around, sort of.

By the way I don't went to be the bearer of Bad news but I was also thinking of getting the Pace Edwards roll top but I've seen a few post both on this forum and on the "other" site about problems with fading on the PE roll top. It seems that the Retrax seems to hold up better allthough it is a bit more expensive.

You might want to look into this. I've think you've suffered enough.
