$60 K for a Navigator (Believe that!)
$60 K for a Navigator (Believe that!)
Hey, you couldn't believe the 2003 Navigator was 61,000? Trust me, that's not unusual. I went by Plano Lincoln/Mercury in November of 2000. I was a bit disappointed with the ride of my recently purchased 2000 Expedition (Jiggly) especially since not even my 99 S'Cab Flareside was as jiggly (Longer wheelbase).
People I knew that had Expeditions told me "If you'd gotten the tow package, it has air bag suspension and is sprung differently. It rides a lot better." Even my saleman told me that after the ink was dry on my contract.
Anyhoo- I went by Plano L/M because I was a bit upset even though I got my truck 7K under sticker $29,000/$36, 895 & 0.9% financing. I know I would have been way upset had I bought the Navigator and it rode like that.
Upon arriving, they had a few stock navigators, but parked next to the ones they already have fixed up with 18's and maybe 20's sitting on some nice Italian named wheels, makes you look right past the "base" models.
I saw several $60,000 Navigator's on the lot, 2 years ago. Granted, those had different running boards and a wicked paint job, but 60K is a lot of bread. Nevertheless, I saw a man and his wife taking delivery of one that same night....
People don't challenge the sticker, they just pay. That's why the Expedition and Navigator have gone from 23-31, 000 and 41-45,000, up to 31-38,000 & 54- 60,000 respectively.
Aside from adjustable pedals, homelink & wider armrests, how many more goodies can be had today over the 1997 & 98 models? Is it worth that much money to ya?
I like the 2003 Navi. It's (well it was) on my short list. But if it's 60,000- I think I'll stick with the 2003 Expedition, or maybe cross-over into Enemy Territory and grab a 2002 Escalade or Denali XL.
You're right- That truck will drop 25-30K in resale value in the 1st year. Talk about being upside down!!!
Speaking of taking a bath, I saw a 2001 Cadillac Deville DTS in Ruston, LA for $24,000, with 18,000 miles on it. That's a $51,000 car brand new. It may be a little over a year old, it's only 1 model year old and it's being sold for 24,000? That's a loss of $27,000- and you know whoever traded it probably got $17-$20,000. I'd be pi$$ed at losing darn-near 30K in my investment in the first year!!!!
Yeah, I'm happy with my Expy now. Believe it or not, it rides better on my A/R Vanguards wrapped in 275/55/20's than it did on my factory 275/60/17's or my aftermarket A/R Atlas on 295/65/16's. I might pick up a 2003 Navi in 2005 when it's down to $23,000.
