you lucky dog

bass season around here doesn't really start to get good until late may/early june. The water is just to cold for the fish right now.A 3-5 lb bass around here is also a trophy sized bass, growing season is too short to produce any real whoppers. The biggest bass that I know of taken locally was a little over 7lbs Want trout, salmon or stealhead? The fishing is great for all of them right now. I had the plesure of having to fillet out a 27lb salmon that I caught over the weekend.

thats awesome. I have seen a few 9-10 lb'ers pulled out. When we were in Alaska, the Salmon and Halibit fishing were awesome. I had the chance to do some (I think Pink) Salmon fishing with bears. They were about 12-50 feet away from us at many times throught the day. This was fishing across Cook Inlet near Wolverine creek, near the Clark reserve. The halibit were about 300yds deep, and took a good while to pull up. I thought the guy next to me was out of shape, until I had to pull the 3 lb sinker up to get more bait.

Me and my brother usually go to the state park about an hour from us and fish on their big *** lake. I have no idea what it is that we catch, but they're a pretty good size.

My question is when do those big mama's start spawning? I have heard everything from when the cherry trees blossom to the first full moon in May. I have been bass fishing seriousley for the last several years and have never hit it just right. I'm going this weekend after I shoot that big Tom that has been taunting me for the last few weekends

The bass spawn when all conditions are right, I think the most importtant is the water temperature.I never fish for the bass during the spawn.I would much rather wait for a hot summer afternoon to go after them big boys with some topwater action. There is nothing more exciting than seeing a big old bass come busting up out of the water when he is striking your lure.

I am from alaska however we moved down here when I was 5 so I remember very little of it. Believe it or not, we moved here for better fishing and hunting opportunities (and better weather)

Oh yeah I had some of that salmomn for dinner last night......mmmmmmmmmm

Turkey hunting??Well I don't know about the turkeys where you live but the wild turkeys aroud here would not even be a challenge to hunt.I am building a house on 26 acres that is surround by blm on 3 sides and there are tons of turkeys running around my property. One day I was working on my place and I notice that there is 3 hens and one tom down in the lower field (not more than 35 yards away) These birds are clearly visable from the road. I stopped working and started watching the turkeys and about that time a red pickup pulls up into my driveway.2 guys get out (all decked out in cammo) and ask me if they can hunt turkeys on my place( I have not hunting signs put ip all over the plavce .I told them no and then I proceeded to ask them how they could call themselves hunters if they just want to pull up and shoot these birds.Whatever happened to the thrill of the hunt. I was really quite dusgusted with these guys

that reminds me... i need to get some subs...

btw PhillipSVT: do u go to OU? a football player from my high school here in California played for OU, and was drafted by the Cowboys... Roy Williams...

I got a funny story about Roy.. you may know that Roy Williams is known for his hard hits. In HS, he played soccer as well as football, and in the sectionals vs De La Salle for soccer he was checked by the opposing goalie so hard that he hit his head on the turf and they had to bring an ambulance... haha i bet nobody'd ever think he'd get knocked out by a soccer player!!

I've been a bass fisherman off-and-on since the 70s. I caught my largest bass(8 lbs) back then. I go much more often now and am still searching for that elusive 10 lber(harder to find than my first 12 sec. 1/4 mile pass).

I fish in ponds and small lakes only. I have a 10'x4' Basshunter pond boat that fits perfectly in the bed of my 97 xlt and it's light enough that I can tilt it out and slide it to the water.

Btw, hear is a link to a line of bass(both large and smallmouth) baits second-to-none. I have been using them for 3 or 4 years and have caught(and released--after snapping their pics.) hundreds of l/m bass from 1/2 lb to 7 lbs. These baits are expensive but you get what you pay for.

http://www.yamamoto.baits.com/

If you have the most recent Bassmaster magazine, look at the Lunker pg.(near the end of the 'zine)--4 or 5 of the lunkers were caught on G/Y baits.

Come to Texas

I have been fishing Texas waters for about 18 years and let me tell you. Some of the lakes in Texas esp Lake Fork 8lb-10lb are the norm. I grew up across from a private 250 acher stocked every year with 500-2500 Florida bass and the pre-spwan would start in late March and early April but the real spawn was in late April and NOW...man I do miss those springs and summers when fishing was all I really did when I was not in school. I think I was one of only a few kids that got nearly every moring around 6am to go fishing. Those were the days.....

smallmouth bass

Yep one of my local rivers has smallmouth in it.Those fish are really scrappy.Average fish size is in the 8-15 inch range. However, if you know the secret spots you can hook into a much larger fish. The current record for fish size on the river is around 3 1/2lbs, but I have seen and hooked larger ones.Unfortunately they have never made it to the bank (it really ois my own fault for using 4lb test line)I know but it makes all the fish fun to catch.
There is funny but true story on how the smalllmouth got introduced into the river.Apparently a fish stocking truck was on his way to deliver a load of smallmouth to a local private pond
and the unthinkable happened. He got into an accident and the truck ended up on its side. The only way to lift it back up and put it on its wheels was to empty it of the fish and water. The river was right across the raod so the bass were released into it.This happened 35-40 years ago.
One notable issue has arisen from this salmon runs are declining because the bass love to eat the salmon smolt.
