My reply to the PEPSI vs COKE thread - please read.

Moderator this not lightning tech but it is very valuble info, please do not delete!!!!!!!

GUYS GUYS!!!!!!!!

Dont drink any of that ****!!!!! Coke, Pepsi, or any sugar based soft drink. This crap is extremely bad for you, I am going to be 33 yrs old May 9 and I can tell you that my life has been a living hell for the last 18 months.

I was "addicted" to coca cola for most of my first 29 years and right after I turned 30 I started feeling bad so i went to the doctor to discover that I had become a diabetic some time ago (mid 20's). The coke contributed to the disease and hurting me without my knowledge. Even though my diabetes is now under control I am facing some serious health issues as I type this, the high levels of sugar previously in my blood has caused lots of damage to my kidneys, feet, and eyes.

In the next ten years I may be facing total kidney faluire, blindness, and the loss of my feet or legs. I am in the first stages of all three, but i am not going down without a fight. I dont blame anybody for my problems but I convinced my consumption of coke greatly amplified the damaging affects of my un diagnosed diabetes.

My point to this statement is this >>>

If you find that you are drinking alot of sugared soda and are always thirsty PLEASE go to your doctor to have a blood test done. It may save your life.

The CDC in atlanta considers the current level of diabetes diagnoses a national epedemic. The estimates are that for every person diagnosed there are 20 to 30 more walking around un diagnosed, slowly killing themselves!!!!!!

Take care and be safe guys,

Bob
Today was not a good day in dealing with my disease so I am venting, thanks for listening

I firmly believe that refined sugar is a silent killer. In no other time in history have we ever had CHILDREN with type II diabetes, yes children.

My prayers are with you Bob.

my name is brotherdave and i am a cokaholic!

i dont drink, smoke or dip but i was drinking about 3 cokes (32 oz,)a day and that and some bad food choices caused me to gain weight. i resently asked my doctor to help me with a diet, none of this fat blocker or speed crap, he gave me a pill that i take twice a day called chromium polynicotin. this pill really curved my coke craving, 6 weeks latter i am down to about 1 coke (12 oz. can)every 2 days and i dont crave it like i was. Man that crap is addictive!
Bob how many were you drinking a day.

Fight the good one bud, sounds like everybody here is with you.

addition mess to all (misc ramble)

Now don't get me confused as being a health nut but. . . It's water boyz, clean & pure. your body is made up with over 70% water so why not have some when you are thirsty.

It's the single most important thing you can easily do to give your kidneys, et al a break. Try to get at least 8-10 small 8oz cups a day (not really hard, I have more then that before lunch)

It's just like running your two year old lawn mower gas in your "L" soda will not give you any performance benifits. Proper hydration will give you better indurance, your muscles will recover faster and your "stool" will be, eh be easier to pass.

Nothing wrong with a little now and the but thats why they say, moderation is a good thing

PURE WATER!!! amen, i drink about 2 gallons a day! Havent had a soda in like 2 years.
I dont eat anything made with white flour (pasta, bread, etc).
In fact i dont eat any refined sugar of any kind and only eat about 150grams of carbs a day of which 125grams are complex and 25grams are natural sugar. I would trade monofat for sugar any day.

Refined sugar is EVIL!

Im david, a health freak and it shows (everytime I go to the beach)!

Bob

You are right it is off topic... WAY off topic...
But since I have been diabetic for 15+ years I'll let it slide.

Get yourself the best endocrinologist you can find and study up. I have been on insulin since '88 or so ( age 25 ) and havent been back to the hospital since diagnosis. Really Lucky....Or really good or both

When I was diagnosed they told me I would be lucky ( based on statistics ) to live 20 years... If I believe them then I have only a few years to go... NOT... I am doing pretty good and I plan on hanging around a long time to close posts and such...

Nowadays you can eat just about what ever you want as long as you keep track of your blood sugar. Regular sodas are simply not worth the extra injection needed to counteract the 12 teaspoons of sugar...

Your advice to anyone who is really thirsty and peeing all the time is good .. See a Dr.

Off my soapbox....

Doug

Bob,
Thanks for sharing all that with us, it takes a real man to talk about a disease that they have and to try to help others by sharing what they know. My prayers are with you and good luck with your battle. As above stated, we are all family, so if you ever need anything or just need to talk to someone, you have a huge family here to fall back on. Don't hesitate to call on us, we are here for you.

My father is borderline diabetic.....He used to eat sweets all the time until he started to feel light headed and get massive headaches every other day. He took a five hour glucose test just out of recommendation and found out the bad news.....this was ten years ago and has not since become diabetic. His diet was changed dramatically cutting out white breads, sweet drinks, and other various stuff. Now it's mostly whole grain pasta, grain bread, fish...that sort of thing.

Diabetis is a horrible disease when out of control....I know someone who had to have their legs amputated and would never want to see it happen to somebody else.

BTW, coffee isn't that bad without sugar...And Dunkin Donuts is EVIL

Bob,
I too was diagnosed with type II diabetes almost two years ago..I have had to alter my diet and take a pill once a day..I have to drink diet coke(gotten used to it) and low carb foods. I am allowed 60 carbs at 3 meals and 30 carbs for a snack..It's tough to follow and lately I have been cheating..I monitor my blood sugar and try to eat right..Doc says to exercise and stuff so I walk the dog (not often enough). Regular checkups and watch what you eat... no more Ice cream for me ......
Good Luck and take care of yourself......I know it's hard but try not to let it get you down......more mods helps.....JR

you gotta think positive.....

Thank You Everyone!!!!!

Its makes me feel good to now people care....

If i read this same post 8 years ago I might have got myself checked because i had the signs but never felt bad so it was business as usual.

Doug / JR- good to now others are out there!!!!

I am seeing a good endo right now I am not on insulin at this time and really have no need too with my diet. My eating habits have come 360deg and I have lost 78lbs since may 15 of 2001. My current A1C (rolling 3 month average sugar in the blood) is 5.1 probably lower then most non diabetics on this board but I am struggling with the damage already caused by this damm thing

CAKA -

When you sustain high blood sugars for long periods of time it damages the little blood vessels in your organs. After a period of time your kidneys with not filter as well and they begin to shut down (takes years) till they finally dont work any more.

The sugar also damages the little blood vessels going to your retina's and they start to leak and if they dont stop leaking you will lose your sight all together. This is the most scary thing for me really. I found out last thursday the my left eye is bleeding near the retina and i have to have laser surgery to fix it on may 8 and I scared to death. When the doctor told me I lost it when I got to my car, i am glad i got rid of my guns a few month ago because at that point it may have gotten ugly if I had it. I am doing my best to cope but it has been tough. My lightning really keeps my mind off things when I am driving / washing / playing with it thats for sure. All my problems fade away with the sound of the eaton huffing 15psi....

The sugar also causes damage to the little verves in your feet and cause you to become numb and things like to tingle with shooting pains. It is really quite horrible but I am coping to this point.

Once again guys, if you have any symptoms please go have yourself checked!!!! If caught early enough and kept under control you will probably die of old age not of complications of diabetes

Thanks again for all your prayers it means alot to me!!!!!!

Bob <<< needs some sleep
