Correct driving position
LESSON #1 Driving
I see many drivers with the seat pulled all the way forward and both hands at the 12: o'clock position. What are they imitating - an air bag? - they would not have a chance in any crash situation.
This and both at the 6: o'clock postition are the most dangerous way to drive in my opinion - you simply have little or no control of the wheel.
The wheel should be at a comfortable distance away from your chest, to allow your arms some flexing. with a slight elbow bend and yet close enough to the pedals to allow contact. (or glue wooden blocks to the pedals).
Both hands should grip the wheel - the left at, say 8, 9, or 10 o'clock, the right - at 2, 3, or 4. (I prefer the 9, 3 position).
Both hands should grip the wheel snugly, but not so tight as to cause cramps. (fingers only should be used for something else entirely
)
Some of you may comment on racing drivers. Remember they are in a 5 point harness and can barely move, now with a HANS type device they can barely turn their head.
LESSON #2 - Mirrors
Side mirrors should be adjusted to show the bare edge of your vehicle. Rear view mirrors - to show the bottom of your rear window and an equal amount of space on either side. (not for shaving, picking zits, or other enjoyable stuff)
I hope you kids enjoyed this little primer - further lessons may follow .
A test will be given at the end.
You are all very welcome - now back to the regularly scheduled program.

I can only steer with my left hand because I have my gangsta lean so extreme my right hand won't reach the wheel. If my passenger bag wasn't on I might get kilt.
I also have my seat tilted so far back I had to install large print gauges and have to keep the back window clean to see where I'm going.

i use the "left hand @ 12:00 & right hand on the shifter" about 90% of the time, unless im in the highway, where i get lazy and use the "left hand @ 6:00 & right hand on the radio (while keeping the eyes on the road of course!)"
Offroad driving tip: If you have big tires never wrap your thumbs around the steering wheel. I saw a guy hit a big rock and the steering wheel came around and sprained his thumb, could have been worse too.
I usually drive left handed with right hand on the shifter (even though it's bad for the tranny).
