Offroad Bronco Project

Didnt know where to post this so I decide to post here.
I dont know if any of you watch or even get the show trucks but i watch it every once in a while and it just happen to come on tonight and they showed their project bronco doin some offroading. it did pretty well. only got stuck once the whole day and they were going throuh some pretty harsh stuff. anyway i was just wondering what you all would suggest. i like the look of the one on the show. it looke like lat 70s maybe??? i dont really know much about broncos. but i want it to be older. probably drop a new engine in their, defiently a bunch of suspension mods, cosmetic stuff, and all the good ****. so basically im looking for what you guys would suggest i get. im looking for ****ionaility and not looks.

thanks

well, it all depends on how much you want to spend. if it were me, id get an 80-86 style bronco (mainly because i love that look)and find some sort of big block to drop in (carbed 428, 460...etc) along with a strong transfer case, a straight axle conversion, low gearing, electronic lockers, and the usual off-roading accessories (only the bare necessities). put around a 6" lift with some 35" tires and youre good to go!

I have a 69 Bronco, the 302 is being rebuilt. Fuel injected, I have a 4:10 rear end, 33" BFG Mudders, 4 Inch Rancho lift and Rancho suspension. Ive got to get some money together to rebuild the tranny. I have had it for 4 years and its still not running but is getting there.

The 66-77 Bronco are tuff little rigs. They can hang with the best rock crawlers and if the engine (302) is done-up a little and some gears they do better than most mudd runners. Short wheel base, nimble, reliable!

check these broncos out

There are nicely restored ones around my house going for $12k+.
Most are for "horsin" around in, and in the under $2k range. If I ever fall down on some money I'm getting one.

My favorite year is 1979. No offense, but I hate the look of '80 - '86 Ford trucks. My '79 had a modified 460, 7" lift and 36" mudders, and a modified C6 tranny. If you want one of the toughest trucks ever made, get a '79. All the offroad mags will agree, too.

Also, there is the '77. It was the last year for the smaller body. I would choose that year out of the '66 - '77 range simply because it had a lot of "up to date" factory hardware. Basically it would be easier for the novice.(IMHO)

So depending on where you plan to use it and how, it's up to you which year to go with. If you got the bucks, go for it!
