i have to agree with beastrider .
i have overclocked many a cpu and they tend to crash faster and give more errors . cooling is critical on any cpu . intel , cyrix etc.. take overclocking better cause they are under rated as our ford trucks GVWR is underrated so you aren't overloading it all the time if you max the GVWR. same with cpu's . amd's don't like to be overclocked . they never have and never will. my freezer is for food i don't need to be keeping my cpu in it . and thats about what it would take to make a 1.2 ghz cpu run at 2.3 ghz and be stable . lets face it windows already isn't stable . lets just make it worse huh?. what is the gain when the cpu reaches it's thermal limits? stress fractures in the ceramics is what . i don't overclock anymore . i can't afford to replace my computer and i have enough problems with windows being screwed up !!

Just want to know what you guys need all that speed for.
I still build computers for friends and family, save a ton of money, but the concensus is that none of us need anything over a 600.
Is it the thrill of victory or are you guys just bored?

Install MS Flight Simulator, crank up the detail sliders, and see how it works on a 600. Flight sims can bring a 2GHZ machine to its knees.
Primarily, games drive overclocking, not word processors.

Or ripping large amounts of ac3 files, mpeg 1 from vob encoding,, tasks like these which i do all the time would litereally take hours upon hours longer if i only had a 600 mhz machine. Thats why i overclock, and then i turn it back down when the power is not needed so that i can have a more stable system.

plus its addictive, just like trying to bring down 1/4 mile times with my L
